Anyone been prescribed Ohtuvayre (new med)? Your experience?

Has anyone been prescribed the new COPD medication by their treatment team....Ohtuvayre? Just wondering if it now active, how it is effecting patients and how well it does/doesn't work

Verona Pharmacy has just placed on the market a new treatment option for patients with COPD. The name of the drug is Ohtuvayre - pronounced O 2 vayre. It focuses on PDE 3 & 4 to help reduce secretions with patients with not only emphysema but with a over-lying bronchitis as well. It is administered via jet nebulizer twice a day.
Just wondered if anyone has started using it and whether they found it to be helpful.

@kndaustin71 I have been on ohtuyare for several weeks now. Right away I felt like I could breath easier . I even called my lung doctor and told him how great I thought it was working. Then I had a little trip and I do not like going away from home over night because of the work to get all my medical stuff together and fear I will forget something. The morning I was leaving I woke up and could hardly breathe. I had extra breathing problems all the time I was gone. Was it my nerves or the medicine? I am doing better now and it’s been a couple of weeks. I think the new medicine is helping but did it cause the panic or what ever happened? I do not want to experience that again. It was rough but also embarrassing.

I know that feeling, 😥 it's awful, I guess all we can do is keep trying to find something that will work, I keep asking God for a little help just enough so I function a little better to get by, hopefully He will answer soon, His will be done 🙏 I pray for the very best for you 🙏

I started Ohtuvayre in March, 2025 as an additional med (booster), taking it twice daily and it seemed to be helping me with my breathing. Gradually I noticed that about 2 hours after taking it I was very short of breath and had difficult time breathing. I changed the time I took it with my other meds and nothing helped. I contacted the pharmacist at the Specialty pharmacy where I get the med, explained to him what was happening and asked if he was aware of others having the same side affect. He told me to stop taking it and be sure to contact my Pulmonologist. I am not taking it anymore - I was really hoping it would help me, but unfortunately it has not.

@hazely I mentioned to my doctor about trying other things he said let’s just stick with this you tried another product and it didn’t work, I was shocked he said that

I am still on ohtuyare and still confused. I start think it’s really helping and then I will have a couple bad days. Of course that’s the way living with COPD is for most of us. I plan on continuing to take it until I see my lung doctor. I will write again after I take it longer.

@suzyq61 WoW, that don't seem like very good advise, especially coming from a Dr. My Dr. is more than happy to have me trying anything that may work, maybe you should try another Dr. (Just a thought)

@suzyq61 I use it twice daily. While the changes aren't earth-shattering, I have noticed a slight improvement in my breathing.
My problem is that I have severe emphysema, and my alveoli are really bad. My DLCO is about 16%.

I started Ohtuvayre 7/24/25. No effect noted, but 8/8 I had an episode of severe epigastric pain, lasted a day. The next day it was gone but I was very tired, took things easy for a week and a half and lightened diet etc. Returned to rehab 8/23 but found my stamina was less, my heartrate was elevated, and didn't feel as well. I also found my shortness of breath had drastically gotten worse, to the point I could hardly walk from room to room without feeling breathless. Normally I only needed oxygen during the day with fairly heavy exertion. I was also exhausted, felt pressure in lung area and was starting to wheeze.

I continued to take the Ohtuvayre, but started looking online for info, and came upon this site. I saw that some other people had had a severe reaction as I was, and so on 9/18 I stopped the medication. Within three or four days my SOB subsided, energy level and heart rate improved and I felt much better. I'm back to my "normal" level of emphysema now. I have stage 4 and also pulmonary hypertension, but have done very well managing it with LTOT, Stiolto and good diet and exercise. Don't know why Ohtuvayre did not work for me, but I gave it eight weeks!
