Is there any medication to help my asthma go away?

Posted by jenniferguajardo @jenniferguajardo, Oct 13 2:11pm

I am on 200mcg of Trelegy and take 10mg of montelukast. They have helped some but still have an asthma attack every time I go outside. The attacks aren't as intense as they once were. Just wondering what may be added or changed to relieve the attacks. Or is it just something I just need to get use to

Hi @jenniferguajardo - so sorry to hear your oxygen levels wouldn't stay normal and that you had to go to the ER.

Here is some information from Mayo Clinic on collapsed lung, or pneumothorax:

- Pneumothorax https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pneumothorax/symptoms-causes/syc-20350367

Did the ER set you up with oxygen, then? I don't know specifically about whether a collapsed lung could mimic asthma, but a lung specialist, a pulmonologist, would. Do you have a follow-up appointment with a pulmonologist?

@lisalucier oxygen comes through a medical company. So I have to wait till it goes through the insurance and they call when they will be delivering it. It should be 24-72hrs I believe. The office told me they call u pretty quickly.
Now gotta make a spot for the new machines and get all the flamable out of my room

I use Accolade twice a day. Also use your nebulizer. I was born an asthmatic and received allergy shots for 7 years.
Find a good pulmonologist. I started Trelegy couple years ago. It doesn’t help me as much as using the ones I was on. Experiment with the available medications. Good luck.

@lisalucier My 28yr old son called me yesterday and told me he was diagnosed with asthma. I didn't get asthma till in my 40s. He passed out at work luckily someone saw him and helped him. Just wondering if u have any idea if he may get asthma as bad as me over time. He was diagnosed a lot younger then me. So I'm worried about his future health.

Hi,
I have been an asthmatic since I was 4 years old (now 62 years old). Thankfully, there are many treatments available and the guidelines are always being updated. Not good that he passed out at work, and lucky someone intervened to help him. Now will be the time for them to find out what caused this severe reaction. Once he gets over this hurdle, the provider will find the best combination to help him go through this. He may need allergy testing so he knows what to avoid. It can be very scary - especially when first diagnosed. There are times when asthma is very stable, and time when there are exacerbations. Having a good provider, whom he can trust, is essential. Good luck to both of you.

There are many different treatments available now. The guidelines are for inhaled corticosteroids to be used as a first line maintenance medication. Remember that if someone is allergic or cannot tolerate milk products, that Trelegy is a milk based product. It is steroid based, but in the event of an asthma attack, the Trelegy will not help you. You should have a rescue inhaler as well. Good luck.
