Any success stories about Evenity to share with fearful me?

Posted by callmekate @callmekate, Aug 23 8:57pm

After acquiring 2 compression fractures, I am biting the bullet and going for my first Evenity shot in 2 days. I am afraid of everything from heart palpitations (I have AFIB) to muscle spasms and joint pain and everything else . Has anyone been ok on the shots? Or only had minor issues? I would love to read encouraging words. My REMS scores were ok: hip -1.0, spine -1.2, but my DEXA scores were much worse: hip -2.8, spine-4.8, so I feel I have little choice now. Many thanks.

Before you reached -4 in your tscore and started on meds, did you do any of the recommended strategies, like the LiftMoor/Onero which have been shown to increase BMD? Or do Dr Loren Fishman’s 12 yoga poses, also shown to increase BMD? I have started the yoga poses, and will start weight training next week.
Yes, the CTX score is concerning. I will do some research and see if there are ways to bring those down other than meds.
Addendum; after I posted the above, i went on YouTube and found this podcast from Dr Doug Lucas on how to reduce CTX level. I am incorporating some of them already (higher animal proteins, 5-6 prunes a day and working out). I guess I will find out in a year if any of these help OP.

@janeth73 Yes! I love listening to his podcasts. I know he is trying to get people to join his Osteo Collective Program which can cost about $15,000 a year, but at least his podcasts are FREE and he does look into the studies behind the trials!!

3 Evenity infusions so far and no side effects at all. Just to add to the anecdotal data!

I had consultations with three bone specialists before deciding to go on Evenity. All were in agreement that I needed to be on an anabolic medication.

I had good gains on Evenity.
I did not have previous treatment with osteoporosis medications.

Left Total Hip Results
7/31/2024 = -2.8
9/29/2025 = -1.7
Change vs. Previous 20.2%
Right Total Hip
7/31/2024 = -2.1
9/29/2025 = -1.2
Change vs. Previous 16.3%
Spine
7/31/2024 = -4.3
My lowest numbers were at L1 and L2 = 4.5
9/29/2025 = -2.6
Change vs. Previous 33.2%

I cannot be sure, but I suspect that the Evenity caused my hips, thighs & buttocks to ache more. My discomfort was tolerable and carried on with 12 months of Evenity. I finished Evenity in August 2025 and I still have aching.
For my follow-up medication I decided to take Fosamax.

I am an athletic, small structured 67 yr old with a family history of osteoporosis. I had osteoporosis from age 52 & been on & off Alendronate for a total of 9 years. After discovering a spinal compression fracture my rheumologist suggested Forteo but after 3+ months my side effects were too severe so I hesitantly switched to Evenity. I finished 1 year on it & have had no issues (other than tenderness at the injection sites) & great gains (into osteopenia range). Now I'm struggling with what to do next to 'lock in' those gains. Prolia and Aclasta scare me! Prior to Alendronate I tried 3 yrs of the non-drug route with a naturopath, nutritionist, personal trainer, supplements & lost a great deal of bone mass. Hope my positive experience with Evenity helps. My pharmacist give me 3 shots & my daughter gave me 9 at home.

@djmm My experience was just fine with Evenity. My history is about the same as yours, though I’m now 72.

My bone scan, after a year on Evenity is all osteopenia, except for the hip which is at a -2.7, which I’m told is just under the ostopenia range. I also weight train, two years now. I will be getting Reclast infusion to maintain my gains.

The infusion center i go to at the local hospital, after voicing my concerns about Reclast, said for the years they have been giving them, no of no one at their center that has had a bad reaction to Reclast. I assume that means during the infusion, not some bad reaction days later.

Pretty similar numbers with my bones! I just got home from the Reclast infusion; If you want to PM me in a day or two I can tell you what if any side effects I had. Also, from what I read: hydrate A LOT - take a Claritan - and then I believe you need to take calcium and D3 daily. I take K2MK7 to bind the calcium to the bones so it is not floating around my arteries causing plaque build up. The infusion process was not painful at all; I did a "slow" infusion and then a bag of IV to fllush it. You can ask your doctor to order that. Instead of 15 minutes it too an hour.

I realize I posted about Reclast; my doctor did not want me to do EVENITY due to a heart artery problem.
