Prolia treatment for osteoporosis: What is your experience?

Posted by Veruska @veriska, Mar 7, 2017

I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

Thank you for sharing your story of hope. Prolia took me down a painful ugly path. My doctorS told me to STOP the injections. I am following a similar regiment as you. A year later I am back to running & skiing. Physical activity is me Life & Breath since lung cancer surgery 11 years ago. Bravo to you. You are my Rock Star!

I experienced thigh, hip, back & neck pain. Vision changes. Headaches. Low blood pressure. Prolia was not for me. My doctors told me to Stop the injections. Now I’m sleeping all night & running again and taking Vitamin D, Magnisum & liquid calcium. Lots of kale & blueberries too!

In addition to my increased hip pain, my back pain (already had degenerative disc disease) is much worse since the prolia. Actually, I'm willing so far to put up. Its the downward trend in my g.i. problems that have become quite alarming.

@sue225 same here. Stopped it against Drs. wishes. I’m taking Medical grade Probiotics-VSL#3 found behind the counters of Pharmacies. It has saved my life regarding pain from IBS. My wonderful Gastrointerologist put me on it. It’s rather expensive so use Good Rx coupon online. Walmart has the best price. It’s not a prescription. 1 per day to start and now I take it every other day👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Good luck to you! I feel your pain.😞

Thanks for your reply. My family physician has been of no help. Good to know someone else experienced the same issue. I am worried about getting a third injection.
I am familiar with VSL. Tried it years ago when it first came on the market. I did not have a significant improvement. Thank you again.

Hi again...I also had a gastric by pass 20 yrs ago, hysterectomy, have inflammatory RA, Sjogren’s, and nobody has suggested I find the cause of my dilemma... you all seem very educated about your needs and research must have helped... I just hope I find the right path before I have a fracture...I am not sure where to start but does anyone feel it necessary to go to endocrinologist or an osteoporosis clinic....

Yes, either go to an endocrinologist or some rheumatologists deal with osteoporosis. You must be seeing a rheumatologist for your RA and Sjogren's.
I resisted treating my osteoporosis because of a long history of adverse drug reactions. The last bone density showed such a dramatic loss of bone that I realized I better start doing something immediately. I am 64 now.
