Does anyone have a quick fix for gastrointestinal paresis

Hi @spower112000liverpoo - I'm sorry to hear you are dealing with this problem three times per day. That must be frustrating.

According to an article on the Parkinson's Foundation site, this is the status of Parkinson's and gastroparesis: Impaired ability to empty the contents of the stomach, called gastroparesis, is a potential complication of PD ... Unfortunately, treatment of gastroparesis in PD has not been extensively studied, and there are not many treatment options.

@lisalucier
Thanks for including me.
On top of the gastroparesis, I’m bloated all the time. Especially three or four hours after I have a meal.

Hello @spower112000liverpoo and @coho222

Parkinson's does affect the digestive tract. Studies relating to the disorders of the gut and the brain are numerous. Here is an article from the Cleveland Clinic website regarding the Gut and Brain Connection:
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/body/the-gut-brain-connection
As you will see, the article mentions Parkinson's as well as Gastroparesis. On Connect, there are many discussions that members have posted about Gastroparesis. While their Gastroparesis might not be the result of PD, the struggles and the dietary changes they have made might be helpful to you. Here is a listing of these discussions:
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/discussions/?search=Gastroparesis
Here is a Newsfeed from Mayo Clinic regarding foods to eat and foods to avoid if you have Gastroparesis
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/gastroenterology-and-gi-surgery/newsfeed-post/gastroparesis-diet-guidelines-1/
Has your doctor recommended changes to your daily eating habits in order to deal with Gastroparesis? Have you found any particular foods that are triggers for your discomfort?

Suggestion: Talk to your doctor about a low dose of Lactulose. My husband, who has PD, intermittently takes Lactulose. It has helped to keep him regular and reduced bloating.

Thank you so much. I would try anything now to get relief. Take care

We have tried many medications for constipation and nothing seems to work well. He is on morphine and methodone along with carbidopa which are all constipating. Prune juice, prunes, apples juice, orange juice, all bran, miralax, senna, magnesium citrate, constulose, ducusate sodium are the ones he has tried. Then unfortunately you have to go to the suppositories. They do work but it would be better with meds or more natural foods. Any ideas?

@jeanoien24 I saw an articke a while ago that recommended eating 2 kiwi fuits a day. I have experienced constipation so severr that it's easier to give birth to a 8 pound 11 ounce baby than it is to relieve .myself. I found Kiwi helped. The article recommended 2 per day but I v
found one was enough. Tip for eating them. If you have a egg cup fo eari g soct boiled eggs, position the kiwi limr s egg a d cit it i half horizintally. Then use a small spoon to scoopit out. It's so much easier than oeeling them and waskrs kess fruit!

I wanted to know the low FOD map diet pretty much all the time although I eat other foods but try to keep the FOD map levels as low as possible. I’m using fodzyme Before some of the foods that are considered to be transitional from the low FOD map diet. But the FODZYME doesn’t get everything. I don’t have any gluten intolerance, but I seem to do better on gluten-free foods. I do mostly liquids for dinner, usually a soup and sometimes just straight broth. The broth is homemade, the chicken broth, the most stores uses onions and garlic. The most difficult thing for me to do is eat small meals five or six times a day. That is probably the key to success. The bloating is really uncomfortable and it sometimes takes five or six hours to go away. I’m also exceedingly constipated from the Parkinson’s drugs and I have to have an Enema every day. And the other suggestions would be helpful thank you.
