Can one stop taking prolia after the first shot?
Hello everyone, my mom is 84 year old and she got osteoporosis since 8 years. She took prolia last October. She started to feel a lot of pain in her legs now. I am thinking she shouldn't take the 2nd shot but I am afraid of the consequences. Did anyone here stop the prolia at an early stage!? If so what happened? Thank you

@humphreysbr Hello, I too was on Prolia about 1 year ago and after the first shot the next day I felt like I was run over by a truck. My legs ached and I was so weak. Mind you I am incredibly fit-exercise about 12 hours a week. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis -not horrible readings but there probably because of chemo a few years earlier and age. 75. And my gums bled profusely. Also it is a real concern to have dental work done possible necrosis of the jaw. I know two women where the bone actually was coming through their mouth!!!. Then I was on actonel and that nearly put a hole in my esophagus. To this day I cannot swallow food properly without taking pepcid or other medications. Really disgusting that the medical professionals do not divulge the horrible side effects.

1 ReactionI did after 6 months. I had horrible side effects and then I freaked out that you cannot go off Prolia since there is a concern for possible compression fractures!!!!. But I did and then went on actonel which almost burned a hole in my esophagus. Right now I am doing exercise and taking supplements. And trying to be very careful not to fall. I am 77.

1 Reaction@bocabird Im so sorry to hear you have had so many problems. Doctors know what to prescribe but don't seem to look into the possible side effects or discount the occurrence as rare. My doctor keeps telling me I should go on Prolia! I told him I would never take that or anything else after my horrible experience with Fosomax. They prescribe these meds like they are giving you aspirin. Benign for 99% of population. So I am trying weight training and supplements and hope that’s enough because I refuse these meds and their side effects. Best of luck to you on your health journey!
I took Forteo for 2 years..no side effects and great gains..I have severe Osteoporosis with Spontaneous Fractures so I had to relay to Prolia...no side effects but I have dental problems which terrify me....I have had 2 shots....🙏
@lane73 was there a discussion of using Zolendronate to relay off Forteo? And now off Prolia?
Just listened to video on uTube with Dr Susan Ott and Margaret Martin. Very informative. I’m probably going to be in same situation as you.
A couple videos here on Evenity and Prolia from a “top doc”…
I hope it’s okay to post the links here.

1 Reaction@osteopatient2026 thanks for the video. Margaret Martin knows the right questions to ask her experts. Wish though she’d asked about dental issues and how to manage Prolia.
