Can one stop taking prolia after the first shot?
Hello everyone, my mom is 84 year old and she got osteoporosis since 8 years. She took prolia last October. She started to feel a lot of pain in her legs now. I am thinking she shouldn't take the 2nd shot but I am afraid of the consequences. Did anyone here stop the prolia at an early stage!? If so what happened? Thank you

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm 68. I've done the PT classes. I have nerve damage from chemo in my legs, foot, and hands and learned to do everything slow. I've been very active before cancer and osteoporosis, always working the muscles . I work out daily most weeks.(I like to call it working out instead of Physical therapy!)
You're right, working the muscles helps so much. I can tell if I miss a day.
No arthritis in my knee torn meniscus
I had a hip replacement
Severe Stenosis in l4-l5 some people call it arthritis
Ditto. Can barely walk . Took shot in June. Pain within a month . I couldn’t take any of the oral medication because of my stomach. I’m done with these meds. I have RA too but this is diff. This is not worth the leg pain.

1 ReactionI started on Prolia the last week of April. By mid to late May my leg hurt so bad when I walked or stood for any length of time. I’ve had X-rays and MRI of hip and back and every kind of doctor I have talked to denied that prolia could be the culprit. I’ve tried everything and it is slowly getting better just in time for the next injection- nope. Everywhere I have looked it says that pain in legs can occur so why does every doctor insist prolia could not be the issue?

3 Reactions@myra77 Sorry this is happening to you. My doctor didn't mention side effects to me either. My cousin had a stroke after one shot of Evenity. I was slated to take it, and I refused and wound up with Prolia. I had rapid heart and muscle spasms without having low blood calcium. Not taking anymore Prolia. Maybe I should ask for Fosamax again to ward off breaks after stopping Prolia.

1 Reaction@devaziej I am sorry to hear that you are in pain but Prolia is not causing it! I do not know what you are reading that states the pain in your legs is from a Prolia shot. Please tell me what you are reading that states such as I have been on Prolia for years as well as friends of mine and NONE OF US has experienced any pain from the shot. There are Prolia support groups on Facebook and if you join one, you will read so many positive reviews. It seems that here, everyone likes to report the negative and not the positive. It is a shame. I wish you the best!
susanjane77, I'm happy to hear that you and your friends haven't adverse events with Prolia. One of the more common adverse reactions signaled in the clinical trials is leg pain, as even the manufacturer is required to admit. https://www.prolia.com/proven-results/safety-information The post about your experience is appreciated as are your well wishes.
I haven't take Prolia and haven't counted the pro and con responses. My sense is that they are balanced here by other kind posters who have success with the medication.
I 'd like to hear more about your experience with Prolia. Like, how long you have been taking it and if you've had any other reactions. Are the injections uncomfortable. Do you plan to remain on Prolia indefinitely. Do you have an exit plan or a relay drug that you are looking forward to. Any thing you feel like telling.
Bless your bones.

1 Reaction@devaziej many people don't have any reaction so many Drs don't know enough about the drugs they give to beware of all possible reactions. I took Fosomax for 8 months and developed severe arrythmia. My Dr sent me for lots of heart tests all negative. I was the one who suggested maybe it is the Fosomax? He didn't think so but I stopped it and got better in a couple of weeks. After reading many reactions on this site and Drs in the dark I have come to conclusions that your general doc doesn't know enough about osteoporosis just knows what drugs to prescribe. I am going natural with weight training and vitamins and collagen powder.

1 ReactionI took prolia for several years and the doctor just stopped it and put me on a new medication. He did not titrate me off the prolia
I did stop Prolia after one shot and went on Raloxifene with absolutely no problems. My sister however, has been on Prolia for 10 years with excellent results and due to insurance coverage changes, was just switched over to the bioidentical brand and again, no problems.
I really think everyone has to consider their own situation and ages and stages with their bone disease. Definitely do your own research because clearly this disease needs more proactive research in treating root cause.
