Natural remedies for MAC
Some have posted they use Chinese herbs and acupuncture to help with MAC. Which herbs and what part of body do you get acupuncture and for what specifically?

@six5532one I taught school also. I responded to jolenesj above. What I wrote might explain what we mean about school buildings and a classroom of students that can bring their early stage illnesses to class that circulates to all of us in the classroom.

Perhaps the water in the schools. I will always want to know where I got the NTM from. I am not a gardener so doubt it is from the soil. I have always been a healthy person but then bang this rare disease struck. Teaching is a wonderful profession but it saps your energy - having NTM and bronchiectasis is not ideal. I have had to go part time and give up a higher paid full time role of Assistant Head. Twelve hour days are not possible when you have a chronic disease.

@blm1007blm1007 wow, Barbara, so encouraging and helpful. Thank you! I don’t mind having to work for my health. I guess this is my post retirement job now!

Five elements acupuncture also deals with emotions. If you are having emotional upsets, five elements work with organs associated with those emotions.
@namd glad to see you are getting lots of support and recommendations here. Staying strong physically and mentally is helpful and something I think we all strive to work at. I’ve seen people here who are still avid travelers taking on very physical and demanding trips and schedules but like you have a lot of shortness of breath in particular when walking up hill. My PFT does show an asthma component so I have a nebulizer to treat that however I’m wondering if anyone had any suggestions to help with the breathlessness. Thank you.

I have asked my Respiratory consultant about getting a nebuliser but he says it is only useful for people with asthma. I have bronchiectasis. I just go slowly uphill and do breathing exercises and I am fine. I did 6 weeks of Pulmonary Rehab during the summer it was amazing. Onwards and upwards - thank you for the suggestion.

It certainly is!

@namd so glad you were able to do respiratory therapy. I haven’t been able to get referred yet but understand it can be very helpful. Did your therapist mean an inhaler for asthma not a nebulizer? The inhaler part makes sense however it’s highly recommended that people with BE use a nebulizer with saline (and sometimes other medications as needed) to help clear mucus.

1 Reaction@jolenesj I think your nurse friend gave good advice. The radiologist read my CT's as "likely MAC" even after I'd told tech to let them culture was negative. I asked pulmonologist about it and he said radiologist like putting in a potential diagnosis. IMO, they should add a couple possibilities that aren't so scary. 😀
