@ruth36 there was a suggestion to stop taking Eliquis (!?!!!!)
I just remembered by sister was put on Eliquis recently for Afib. Her cardiologist suggested an implant called Watchman instead of taking blood thinners. You can look it up to see if it fits your situation.
I live in Oregon and a similar experience happened to me and the thing I could not understand was the lack of knowledge that Eliquis is not for everyone and their denial that that these side affects do in fact exist in some patience was astounding. My side affects included aching leg and back mussels and balance issues besides a burst artery in my colon and having the drug reversed in the operating room.(I nearly died) It has been several months since taking this poison and I am feeling a lot better. I quit this drug after 1 1/2 weeks after taking it and they told me it would take several months to completely vacate my system. Doctors need to stop saying the side effects such as aching mussels, diarrhea etc, could not be caused by Eliquis. I think they have bought into the fact that in many patience there appears to be no side affects and it works fine.

3 Reactions@seawiz33 I took elquise for two years. I went down very low. , i couldn't walk up my stairs. So many side effects.
I told my doctor I didn’t want to take eliquest . He changed my meds . Two times. My doctor changed me to Multaq. I red the side effects. First words in capital letters said. May cause death. Called him. So he took me off Malta’s. I was so overdose with Metoprolol 175mg and Amiodarone. Now I take Metoprolol 25 mg for A Fib.
I now am back to my old self stairs and all. One exception, I have crushed glass spots on my lungs from taking Amiodarone. Hope this is helpful. I hoe I am the only one that has gone thru these side effects on Afib + heart problems.

2 ReactionsI was originally on Warfarin after having a stroke, but a few years later I asked my GP if there was a better alternative. He seemed very pleased to suggest me taking Eliquis and I have been taking this for about 12 years now. Recently, I have had pains and stiffness in my legs, so I feared I was developing arthritis. X-rays showed I had osteo arthritis in my hips. but it was less severe in my knees. I was referred to a Physiotherapist for the pain. First of all, she was puzzled because the pains around my knee presented like Sciatica, but the pain started below my knees and travelled up towards my thigh, unlike the usual way that Sciatica pain travels down the leg from the lower back. I followed the program of exercises she advised but the pain around my knees became much worse and I experienced a lot of stiffness. She recommended that I have an MRI scan, as she felt the pain may be neurological resulting from the stroke. I'm still waiting for an appointment for the scan and, meanwhile I struggle to get up out of a chair, or out of bed, and my knee frequently gives way. It has got so bad that my husband bought me a mobility scooter to help me get out and about. I was so relieved to read that Eliquis might have caused me all this pain, so I shall be having a discussion with my GP soon!

1 Reaction@rebeccadixon I am so glad to hear that someone else has been affected by painful muscles, just like myself. I never dreamed that all this pain I experience all up my legs, my feet and each and every toe on my left side (Weak- sided from a stroke 25 years ago) could be caused by taking Eliquis! It's such a relief to know I'm not alone in this. I struggle to climb the stairs and I have so much stiffness in my knee that I can barely stand up from a chair or get out of bed in the mornings. I'm now waiting for an MRI scan because my Physiotherapist has been very puzzled what could be causing me so much pain and thinks it might be something 'neurological'. I can't wait to tell her!

OMG, you poor thing…thank goodness you’re finally getting some relief.
I don’t know why doctors don’t want to listen to their patients!
I started with my legs, hurting me back in the beginning of February which at that time I was on Eliquis for a month, never really had issues this bad with my legs Once in a while in the winter, I think because of the north east weather but as soon as the warm weather came, it went away, but this time it’s not going away, seems like it keeps getting worse and worse.
When I went to my primary, I told her about it and she ordered an x-ray on my knees. Well now they’re telling me it’s arthritis, but I still feel like Eliquis Has something to do with it too, but my cardiologist at my last visit told me I should stay on the Eliquis at least until December, which will mean I’ve been on it for a year..
So I’m gonna try and stick it out the next few months and wondering what she’s gonna put me on after that.. A lot of these meds that you see advertise on TV the side effects are worse than the ailment. You can’t seem to win but thank God I haven’t got fevers or nausea, diarrhea or anything like that. It’s just my legs are killing me (my knees). It hurts so bad when I walk but I keep active. I don’t just sit there and don’t just sit. I don’t feel like doing stuff, but it has to be done.
But I wanna thank everybody that commented on my situation..
My primary asked me if I want to see an orthopedic doctor, but you know how that goes. Trying to get an appointment as a new patient, but I really need some advice on what I can take to help the pain. I’ve tried Tylenol but it doesn’t seem like it helps much at all and I’m not one to keep taking meds like that because I also have a liver condition that I take a medication for and I know a lot of these meds can actually damage your liver or kidneys, so I have to ask the doctor every few months to put in an order for me to make sure my liver and kidneys are functioning OK
It’s a sad world that the medical field has come to what it is now, years ago you could go to one doctor and they would deal with whatever problem you were having but nowadays, you have to see a specialist for every little ache and pain!

I’ve also started having my legs give way at times when I’m standing or walking.. Since I came home from the hospital in December I’ve been still sleeping downstairs, I find it very difficult to climb the stairs now!
@debkuz
A few months after my heart attack my Cardiologist was telling me that I could have some type of implant. I forgot what it was called, But I told her nothing is being put inside my body. I’m a worry wart and I’m not about to worry that it’s gonna malfunction.
I never thought it was the medication but ever since I had the blood clot I have had all kinds of back and hip pain. Really bad muscle loss amd weakness. I keep telling the doctors every since I had the blood clot my body's been a mess.

1 ReactionIt seems so long ago now, that I'd forgotten to mention in my last post, when I started Apixaban (Eliquis) for the first time, I experienced a lot of dizziness and lack of balance, thinking it must be the new medication, but my GP dismissed this. He said I would likely always be troubled by problems with my balance and diagnosed Labyrinthitis, which I did have many years ago, back in the late 1970s. I now frequently feel very dizzy when lying down, especially if I turn over and it feels as if my head is sinking down through the pillow. I have reported all these symptoms on the uk.gov Yellow Card Scheme, but I don't know if it's enough to get them added to the list of side effects for this medication. I wish they would add them, so our doctors start taking us seriously!
