medications and eyesight.
today I had my glasses checked and eyesight. my eyesight has changed and I need new glasses, but is it age or hydroxy that has caused it?? I dont want to go back on hydroxy and risk damaging my eyesight further but if its age I am suffering for nothing. how do I tell the difference?

@thisnthat I cant take methotrexate because of liver issues nor leflunomide, now I wonder about plaquenil, wonder if there is anything else instead.
@thisnthat P.S in March my retina was ok ,

Vision changes are very common as we age, and it takes a very experienced clinician to determine if the changes are due to age alone or attributable to medication side effects. In my own case, my opthalmologist is erring on the side of caution, and having me return in about 8 weeks to reassess.

I’ve been avoiding methotrexate, and have had bad reactions to some of the other meds. Right now, all I am taking is LDN….hoping the long-term use if HCQ has put me in remission. 🤞
@thisnthat my psychologist suggested stay off hydroxy for a while then maybe try it again if necessary.
@thisnthat its happened this last 6 months ( since the rheumy upped the dose ). but its a case of which came first the chicken or the egg??!!

As others have pointed out, the best thing you can do for yourself is get a complete eye exam by a highly competent opthalmologist/retinal specialist. It sounds like it has been over 6 months since your last eye exam anyway.
Run everything by your rheumatologist before making any sudden changes in your meds. If you are over the age of 40, I think it is very common to start experiencing big changes in your vision, and it can be a little upsetting. Probably no need to panic, but better safe than sorry!
