prednisone and antibiotic use for copd, how often
Is it really necessary for both? I hate prednisone and the dosage is for a long time. Does anyone just take the antibiotic only? Prednisone keeps me from sleeping for one thing. Also, do you start them both or alone at first sign of a cold or wait till you get phylum and coughing. Seems like move start with sinus and then eventually turn into phylum.

I too have wondered if there are certain triggers that would tell if it is going to be a real flair up and turn into a need for antibiotic and prednisone or just a cold.
I’ve been on both at the same time it’s what my doctor subscribed, he doesn’t let me stay on prednisone too long there’s a lot of bad side affects. I’m on breztri and ohtuvayre and i hardly sleep
I always know when my husband‘s going to have a flareup… Starts with a small cough and turns into a bigger one… At that point we go to urgent care or the hospital and get on some right away so that he doesn’t have to stay in the hospital. If you can keep ahead of the exacerbations, it’s a win.

1 ReactionI should also tell you that he is on prednisone for the rest of his life… Small dose only… He is on portable oxygen during the day and an oxygen and CPAP at night. I’ve seen significant improvements in his sleep pattern… Hope this helps.
As far as a cold my doctor just put me on NyQuil and DayQuil
Quick note - I take prednisone at night right before I go to bed. That way it doesn't have time to get fully into my system and I can sleep. If I take it any earlier, it keeps me awake. Worth a try.

How many pills do you take with prednisone? Did you take the prednisone in the AM or PM? Take in the AM might be better.
I am a pool sleeper as well. I take an aleve PM pill about and hour before I go to bed. No pill I will lay in bed for 3-4 hours before I fall asleep. With the pill I fall asleep in about 15 minutes.
I use the aleve PM but there are a dozen OTC that are PM.
My doctor has not prescribed Prednisone for me. I am on 2 meds for my nebulizer. And I am on 2 inhalers.
But I am on a couple different but very strong antibiotics for other problems I have, I think that is why I was never prescribed antibios from my doctor.
