Trazadone

Has anyone had good luck with Trazedone? I have been using Zolpidem ER (Ambian) for years and it's effectiveness is gone.

I developed tolerance to ambien and all the drugs in that class as well. Actually developed tolerance eventually to all modern sleep meds a few years ago. Trazadone worked well for a few years then started needing higher and higher doses that left me feeling drugged in the morning. Now I take belsomra, a brand new sleep meds that it not supposed to be associated with tolerance issues. It is very expensive though. $400 + retail per month. I’m on a Medicare part D plan and pay $130 every 3+ months. Compared to a few bucks for trazadone.

If it were me I’d stay on the lower dose trazadone due to cost, assured that if the time ever comes, there are alternatives . Perhaps by the time u need it, the price will have come down.

C@laura1970 I TAKE TRAZADONE AND MY DR. SAY GIVE IT A BREAK FOR A FEW DAYS ONCE IN A WHILE AS YOU BUILD UP A TOLERANCE. THEN CONTINUE TINUE AGAIN. IT WORKS FOR ME.

I take a benadryl tab when I want more sleep and it always knocks me out within a 1/2 hour. My psychiatrist is ok with this. She also knows I take CBD/CBN oil, which helps with my anxiety issue. I am near 80 yrs old, so am not allowed to take more than 2 mg of Lunesta, which gives me no more than maybe 2 hrs sleep. I manage to nap in afternoon after a meal. I am doing OK.

@suebillb I thought everyone knew about Ambien holidays. You have to take one night drug free about once/month to reset your brain. Maybe it works for drugs like Trazadone as well. I suspect that explains the mechanism behind people switching back & forth from Ambien & Lunesta. I take an Ambien holiday every month. That one night is hell, but it works. The next 30 days Ambien works fine.

I tried Trazadone and it did absolutely nothing, I might as well have taken an aspirin- no sleep from it at all.

Trazadone was horrible Mixed with daily other meds needs to be considered

@suebillb How much are you taking?

For those of us that cannot sleep....during my readings and research I came across an NIH article, in fact several, that describe Sleep Architecture! It help me tremendously understand why some of the medications prescribed work while others don't, in particular benzodiazipines. The article was explicit in describing sleep onset, maintenance, REM components, quality etc. I think that most will find it extremely informative. I suggest this only to provide information for you to share with your physician to arrive at an acceptable treatment plan for sleep hygiene. Just try and see what you think!

@mmwagner46
Well I just started but it seems to work just fine.
I take 125 at about 6 or 7pm & go to sleep about 2+ hrs after that,
so get 8+ hrs of sleep
BUT
now I have another ( isn't there always...) I also take an anti anxiety & an
anti depressant so the Pharmacist said there could be a complication called "Seritonin Syndrome". Have you heard of that?

@kayraymat I take 150mg at 10pm and go to sleep at 10:30. Fall asleep very quickly. If you take 125mg. so early aren't you very tired very quickly?
