How do you use the Bololo?

Posted by lvnl @lvnl, 22 hours ago

Hi all, I just got the Bololo baby bottle sterilizer after so many positive comments here. Trying to sort out the most effective & time-saving use ... So all input welcome and thanks!
If you have the Bololo...
How often do you sanitize?
How many nebulizer sets do you sanitize at once?
Do you still soak in soapy water first?
Do you leave the "extended" function on? If so why, if not why? Meaning it turns on heat every so often to keep parts sanitized as they are stored in the machine. Not sure if all the machines have this?
And I can't find a way to turn off the extended function without turning off the machine altogether. So if I turn on the machine when I go to bed, it kicks on and makes some noise periodically (I have it in my room).
Thanks and best to all.

How often do you sanitize?
Every other day or less.

How many nebulizer sets do you sanitize at once?
One. I use the Pari eFlow mesh nebulizer. When I used the Aeroeclipse I had a bunch of sets and probably sterilized 3 at the same time.

Do you still soak in soapy water first?
After each use and before sterilization.

Do you leave the "extended" function on?
My machine does not have this function.

General observation: The frequency of sterilization seems to depend largely on psychological comfort, individual risk tolerance, and underlying disease state. In my case, I have bronchiectasis and asthma without any identified pathogen, aside from a dormant colonization.

How often do you sanitize? Daily
How many nebulizer sets do you sanitize at once? 3 plus the Aerobika. (I nebulize 7% saline AM and PM plus I use the Pari daily for Arikayce. )
Do you still soak in soapy water first? Yes
Do you leave the "extended" function on? I am using a Dr Brown unit and do not have that function on mine. My unit has a dryer function which I always use and claims items remain sanitized for 24 hours provided it is not opened after it has been run. If your items are dry and safe to keep stored for a period of time, I would simply unplug it at night.

Thank you @mjb24 and @scoop. I am a relative newbie, have been nebulizing for a year and a half. I have BE and MAC, and am pleased with any time- or work-saver.
I appreciate this grup so much!

@scoop hey scoop, you like Sue, have always provided excellent advice and insight, and I thank you both for that. How many times a day do you nebulize? I know most if not all nebulizer manufacturers state to do soapy water after using, but is that daily or EACH use? I neb 3x daily how can it air dry to reuse at 6hr or so intervals? Also I think it depends on the location of the area in the lungs of the BE. Mine for instance is both lower lobes towards the back, and right middle lobe. After I nebulize in morning, I do always get up quite a bit of mucus, then about 90-120 min delay more comes up. I’ve been told this is because of the lower lobe’s location make sense, as it takes time to move up to central and upper airway. If you neb more than once per day how does your equipment dry so quickly to use again after soap bath? Thank-you again for all you do for all of us. You also Sue.

I soak everything in soap and water for a long period of time. I then rinse and put two sets of neb cups and two sets of Aerobika in the Bololo which I run in the evening. I use the auto setting but I then 20 min of additional drying. Just leave it all in there till the next day. I do this every day but plan to boil once a week instead.
