Dr. Doug Lucas Has anyone here paid money to work with Dr. Lucas?

Posted by trixiegirl @trixiegirl, Jun 1, 2024

I have been following his Youtube channel, did his free masterclass and have learned a great deal. It is evident that he is highly intelligent, motivated, and ambitious. Today I listened to a 2022 podcast interview with him by a health/fitness professional in the UK (Tony Wingard with whom I am not familiar). I think this was just when the optimal bone health website was getting started. The interview is quite interesting as I learned a lot about Dr. Lucas’s background which I have not managed to find anywhere else. I was surprised to know that he was a professional ballet dancer for 2 years before going on to medical school because of his fascination with the muscular/skeletal systems. He also talks about how he moved from orthopedic surgeon to functional-anti-aging medicine and the influence of his wife who is a registered dietician. After listening to this podcast I do believe his main goal is to heal and teach. I like how he analyzes studies and updates information and recommendations.

Hi shelldct1,
I have been using the Marodyne Vibration Platform for about 2 1/2 years, but have recently purchased the Osteoboost since it is wearable and seems to have more positive research behind it. I alternate the use of both: 10 minutes of the Marodyne and 30 minutes of the Osteoboost every day. Hoping to have bones of steel! 😀

Are you referring to Dr Fishman’s yoga method?

I have an appointment with one of his team members in two weeks. I already belong to his Collective at $35 a month. I have been very impressed with his presentations and the fact that he is an MD gives him real credibility, at least with me. The $13,000 annually is truly prohibitive for me and I am certain it is for many people. Such a shame that quality health care comes with an excessive price tag.

@lhankins thanks for Posting, how did you get an appointment with one of his team members. Just joined the group so trying to navigate the site.
Thanks again!!

If you have the application you should be able to send a message to request an appointment. They update their site quite frequently. As a member you should be able to drop in on one of the “Tech Sessions” they offer on navigating the site as well. Good luck with your bone health path!

I have not joined Dr. Lucas because I already joined the Bone Coach, Kevin Ellis, b4 I started seeing and watching Dr. Doug podcasts. I am glad I joined bc I have learned a wealth of information that may help me with my goal to stay off of osteoporosis meds as long as possible. I say it may help bc I have only been a member for 5 months, but I believe it will. The difference btwn these 2 men is that Doug Lucas is a doctor, and he is pro hormone replacement therapy. Kevin Ellis is neither, but has done a lot of research and has a great program. There are also others who have similar programs. I listen to all of the podcasts, and they are basically all saying the same thing. I think the information they share is very helpful, and I'm glad I invested in myself.

@martita It’s been a year. Can you share any insights? Were you able to use what he taught you and stay off meds?

@thisnthat Did your tscores improve after using the Marodyne LIV for 2 years?

I did consider buying the Osteoboost belt (my endo signed off on the prescription) but then I realized it doesn’t really increase BMD. The trials show that the intervention and placebo groups BOTH lost BMD if you carefully look at the actual numbers. It’s just that the intervention group lost less. I suppose it’s a win??

Yes, shelldct1, my scores improved tremendously, but I attribute that to doing a very wide range of interventions, not just the vibration platform! I went from osteoporosis of the lumbar spine (-3.0) to normal, and my hip and femur improved to mild osteopenia. I try to eat mostly whole foods (~80%) and organic where possible. I take a boatload of supplements (you really don’t want to know!), do strength training about 4 times a week with additional exercises daily. Luckily, I am able to be on bHRT. I try to keep up on the latest research. It’s an uphill battle, and we must all remain vigilant about our bone health!

Unfortunately it looks as though there is shortage of Doctors specializing in osteoporosis. I live in both NYC and San Francisco so had to have 4 of my Evenity treatments in San Francisco. Then 6 at NYU Langone. I had to have an initial appt with a Rheumatologist which was like $350.00 (Medicare paid) before she would agree to take me on for the monthly Evenity shots I need when out there. I called to get my Jan & Feb shots as I would be staying there during those months. I was told she has now gone "concierge" and it would cost be $4,000.00 a year to be her patient. I called UCSF to see if I could get a new patient appt with a new Rheumatologist and they told me no new patient appointments for 6 months! She also mentioned that all of the Rheumatologists in the area have all gone concierge. I called my Rheumatologist back and she kindly let me come for the Jan/Feb shots without have to join her $4,000/yr concierge fee. Also here in NY my Rheumatologist retired and it took them months to find a replacement as nobody is specializing in osteoporosis much.

@resams
I had the same problem. 62 years old, -4 spine, -2.7 hip. I also live in NYC. 6 months to see an endocrinologist that specializes in osteoporosis at Cornell/NY Presbiterian that took my insurance. After 6 months I had a consultation ($250). She just said to take injection. She recommended a nurse in her practice that was supposed to help me with diet and exercise ($250). I knew more than her on diet (she did not even know that almonds had calcium). And not much about exercise. She just gave me a pamphlet written by a pharma company and sent me on my way. My Endocrinologist ordered a lot of blood test, but did not inform me of what anything meant... just said that "all look with in range." If I want an explanation, I will have to have a "consultation" (another $250). She also recommended a rehabilitation doctor ($750). After all of this, I don't have any advice what so ever. $1k a month for Dr. Doug does not sound that bad after all if I get: a dietician, a physical trainer, recommendations for what to take, and blood test for measurements. I do agree that he is over the top. I wish there was someone like him that did not push his products so much.

I live on the Central Coast in California. A barren wasteland for medical care. I had a former colleague mention a concierge service in my town that is not really advertised. It is run by a husband wife medical team who both burnt out on the current medical/pharmaceutical models. It only costs $129 per month which is much more affordable than OBH. The also compounds minerals for me as well. These types of services are available in the greater LA area but cost $1000 per month so in a sense I lucked out living in a small town. I also found a personal trainer in my area that is reasonably priced to assist with proper weight lifting techniques so I can load my spine safely. It took me almost two years to find this type of situation. I do believe these types of services are popping up all over the U.S. due to the dissatisfaction of many who cannot find appropriate help in standard medical facilities. As the popularity rises I hope they will become available more readily. We need advice that sometimes is outside of the box to treat a complex condition like OP. I wish you the best.

I live in the Hudson Valley (NY). Any one knows about specialized help in this area? I can travel to NYC too if needed...
