I am experiencing profuse sweating off during the day and nightly. Is this common post Covid?

I am seven months into having long Covid. In the early months I awoke every night with my pajama top drenched in perspiration. This has significantly reduced in occurrence in recent weeks!

Hi @dr4bama - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

Sweating does seem to be a pretty common side effect of COVID-19, unfortunately. I know it can get very uncomfortable throughout the day!
Others have discussed ongoing fevers with sweating as a side effect on this discussion post, you may find it helpful to read through:

Have you continued to have a fever at all in your recovery? Have any other symptoms continued?

I don't that I get a fever and only sweat outdoors regardless of the temperature. If it's hot out I'll all of sudden start to sweat on top of the normal sweat from the heat. All upper body.

I’m 70 and thought I was done with hot flashes years ago, but they’re back. And when I get one, I sweat. My husband can be bundled up in a blanket on one end of the couch, while I’m sitting on the other end hot and sweaty. This started up again after I was diagnosed with Long Covid in 2021.

I’m in my late 70s and after my second Covid was thrown in to hot flashes 18-20 times a day. It has gone way down after about a year but still with any stress, I can have at least 4 or 5 big flashes that day. Wake up at night occasionally covered in sweat!
I had gone through early menopause at 38 and flashed occassionly up until 42 or so but still only occasionally! This has been really hard!

Sounds similar to my experience. The solution I think has been hormone pellets. This took some regulating, 3 years into pellets now, but I finally don’t wake up soaked anymore. I’m 76 and had a hysterectomy at 39. Sounds a lot like you. Good luck.

I had sweating and palpitations after having covid, it carried on for about two years and stress definitely set it off too, it finally calmed down but I still get symptoms occasionally. I’m also in my 70’s and my doctor assured me that it wasn’t uncommon for older women to have hot flashes even into their 80’s. I also did some research on this and it seems that it’s quite possible to get hot flashes into your 80’s, I found that it was much stronger after having a covid infection especially the heart palpitations.

Yes, I am in menopause and on hormone therapy, but still experience random sweating for no reason and have no heat tolerance. 70 degrees feels like 95 to me and I hate the sun now. You're not alone.

After the second time of Covid, my heat tolerance sank lower and I frequently have issues with random, profuse sweating and wake up frequently soaked. I'm on hormone therapy, so it's not from menopause.

I don’t know how long ago you had Covid but I contracted it early 2020 and had awful drenching sweats for over a year. My thermostat has entirely changed and I hardly ever get cold and can’t tolerate the heat like I used to.
