CPAP silicone allergy: Anyone know of other options? Solutions?
I apparently have developed an allergy to silicone, which creates problems with my cPAP mask since they all seem to be made of silicone. Anyone know of other options? Solutions? I do use a barrier (Silent Night, RemZZs) but at times they slip and I end up with skin break-down.

You have taught me something new. I had never heard of Pyrrole so it led me to Google it. My two brothers used to have outburst of anger way above a normal reaction level. I, too, experienced and sometime acted upon those feelings as well. I feel this may have been an explanation. With age those emotional reactions have waned. Thank goodness. My father had the same fatal flaw. While he was a great dad and human being, he would unexpectedly get frustrated and what we called, "fly off the handle".
Thank you for providing a possible explanation.
As to your possible reaction to the CPAP, I have no useful input. Other than--using it makes me grumply. I thought that was because I am unable to adjust to sleeping with it on.
I've been using CPAP with a full face mask for 20 years but started to suffer from contact dermatitis a few months ago. My skin around the mask area became very red & swollen, itchy und uncomfortable with small blisters. The area around my eyes were also very red & swollen. On advice from my doctor I replaced my silicone mask with a Resmed Airtouch F20, and in order to be doubly safe, I used it along with a cloth liner. This approach partially worked in that the area immediately around the mask is no longer affected but the eye area is still getting very red & swollen. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve this - I'm currently no longer using my CPAP, and suffering accordingly.
I was diagnosed with severe Sleep Apnea didn't like the idea of the C-Pap machine they said dental device from Panthera Dental is a option and I'm glad I did my sleep study showed 300 to 400 episodes per night of breathing stopping I have an overbite the device holds my lower jaw forward preventing my tongue from falling back in my throat. Really glad I did I don't wake up as much wife say I don't snore anymore and feel rested when I wake up you can drink water during the night without taking it out.
The dental device sounds great. I am having trouble adjusting to CPAP and would like to try it. What is holding me back is that I have expensive dental work throughout my mouth. How does your device effect your teeth?
They take a scan of the mouth and a mold is made and the device is made to fit snugly in place takes a little getting use to. kinda is snug at first and you have to really pull it to take out I have crowns and a fake tooth and doesn't bother me but investigate mouth appliance I got mine from Panthera through Marley park dentistry or go through a sleep center. Good luck.
Thanks for responding.
Discovered I'm allergic to silicone (at least around my nostrils). Inflamed, red, almost raw skin under and inside my nostrils. I found that diaper rash cream healed my skin and also provides a skin barrier for the nose pillow. For the first few days I applied both in the morning and at night. The morning application healed my nose well enough that I didn't need the daytime application any longer. It was advised to chose one with zinc oxide. Now, the zinc oxide makes the cream white so during the day I just rub it into my skin and it will disappear. So far, it's working beautifully.
I have been using a CPAP for at least 15 years with no problems. Only in the last couple months have I started to get red, crusty, inflamed skin on the sides of my nose where the under-the-nose nasal mask cushion sits. I’ve never had an allergic reaction to anything before.
Is it possible the manufacturer has changed the composition of the silicone in the cushion?
