Tapering off quetiapine
I was on 800mg quentiapine and 5 other mood meds. Im off all except 400mg quentiapine.
I went to 200mg to 100mg to 50mg to off over a month and half. I was feeling good besides a few physical effects. I did notice a heart flutter at times, lots of tension in my face and very irritable. I was also going through a tough life situation. I went back up gradually to 400 mg over a relatively short time. Im wantinng to give it another shot and this time do it more gradullay , sit with whatever withdrawal symptoms there may be and let it level out. I may not go off it entirely but I would like to drop the dose radically.
Any advice or similar experience would be appreciated -Thanks

Good for you and good for your Doctor. If you read the side effects for any medication you would never take anything. If your body tolerates it and it helps you consider yourself lucky. You have a good PCP. Many PCP’s should stay off the internet. There are many things that cause dementia but for some people it is simply genetic and runs in families.
Good luck to you.
Thanks Dave. Yeah all drugs have side effects, and the Seroquel has helped me for 20 years without any problem. I'm 70 now and I'm in the gym everyday and I read a lot. Like anyone in their 70s, I'm aware of dementia. I just believe that heredity has more to do with it.

1 ReactionHi Mario,
I take one, 100mg Seroquel pill at night. I've been on doses as low as 25mg, but 100 seems to work best.
I've never tried stopping it because, well it works. I'm very active in the gym and very fit for my age.
That said, I think getting off any drug after long-term use will result in some adaption. That is best guided by a physician.

This is happening to me just over two weeks now,was on and off it every week for awhile, now I feel noty self, funny taste in mouth, buzzing ears, dizzy well funny kind off dizzy,my circulation seems funny as well, when put and about I feel strange in the head, kinda like being locked in Ur own head
I'm so sorry you are also experiencing these weird symptoms. How long were you on it, and did you stop cold turkey?
About 12 months and stop taking half cold turkey
I hope these horrible symptoms resolve for us both soon. I'm on week 7 of feeling this way, it's awful.
My Dr. wants me to go from 100mg. Seroquel to 75 for hand tremor and dizziness. I don't want withdraw crap. Would it be easier to taper down 100mg gabapentin to 50 mg that only helps me sleep?

1 ReactionHi Maria,
These bipolar drugs like Seroquel can cause tremors and twitches. I think it's called TD, Tardive Dyskinesia. It's not widespread, but it is certainly a side effect. Your symptoms sound like TD, at least the hand tremors. Have you asked your Dr about this.
There are drugs now that treat TD. One of them is advertised on TV. Have you checked that out?
All the best.

1 ReactionHi again Maria,
Forgot to mention, I take 100mg of Seroquel at night, not for bipolar treatment, but to help me sleep and to act as a mood stabilizer, along with an anti-depressant.
I don't know if stopping Seroquel results in withdrawal symptoms. A 25% reduction to 75 mg, recommended by your Dr, seems like it would be ok. I'd ask just so you have the information.
