Have you had experience w/ costochondritis?

HI, I had an episode in the middle of the night that caused severe pain in my mid back and sternum, it seemed to radiate around my ribs and my pain was at a 7 or 8. It lasted 2 1/2 hours with the pain, eventually subsiding to aches and some burning sensations in my mid back and shoulder blades. I do not feel it was cardiovascular. Online it mentions that it could have been costochondritis and I am wondering if anyone has experienced this and what do you do to help? Thank you!

I get this sometimes and had all the cardiac workups in the ER twice. It was determined that it was gastric and I had esophageal spasms. Hyoscyamine under the tongue helped a lot but it's hit or miss. I think sometimes it's costochondritis and sometimes GERD because Fibromyalgia can cause problems practically everywhere!

I've had costochondritis flares since childhood. I have asthma and there is one spot on one rib that seems to be the focus. Fast forward to today, when I get a super flare and every connective tissue in my body is screaming, from the joints in my toes to the little bones in my inner ear, I feel it in every rib/ sternum connection and especially that rib spot. Feeling the pain around to your back makes sense because of the costo cartilage on your spine.

Yes I have had it
Thought it was a heart attack when I laid down.
A steroid shot into the intercostal muscles will stop the pain

Yes, I was told it was my ribs rubbing my sternum. It seems to happen when I lift something heavy or use my arms too much.

Yes, I have had this for a long time. When it gets bad, take 600 mg of ibuprofen for the inflammation. It really helps.

It has for the most part, I am still uncomfortable with my bra pressing on my rib cage. If it gets bad again, I will made a doctor's appointment - or go to ER to be sure it is nothing but a fibro related.

Exactly! My bra feels like it's squeezing me and it really hurts.

Now it is happening when I wear a supportive bra!

Yes. I have experienced it when I had severe cough 5 months ago. It took a few weeks after the cough stopped for the pain to go. I went to ER thinking it was a heart issue but it wasn’t. Then only it was diagnosed as Costichondritis. Couldn’t turn on my right side for sleeping. But it went by itself .

I have had Costochondritis but only in front where the fibs rubs against the sternum. Let's burn the bras. Two nights in a row to ER. Finally told the DR what I had. She said I think you are right is is Costochonsritis. I joke it is from too much shopping at Costco.
