Side Effects of Plavix is there an Alternative

Posted by Sundance(RB) @sundance6, Aug 16, 2019

I have been on Plavix for approx 8 months now for an 80% blockage in my main artery on my left side of my neck. I still haven't decided to have it taken care of, My issue is that I am brusing terriably ,ost on my arms and hands, plus everyting i hit something anywhere on my body it bleads. I wear long sleeves so not to freak people.
My wife is on Warfin and dosen't have this problem. For some reason she had not noticed my brusing and bleeding. She spends much of her time taking care of our 8 year old Grandson 3 hours away. She and my daughter became very concerned this last week when I was with them because I would hit something with my legs or hands I would start to bleed then they saw all my brusies.
I called the Neurologist who had percreibed it for me to ask about what was happening. (I JUST NOTICED ON THE SIDE OF THE BOTTLE IT SAID CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMEDATELY IF YOU ARE BRUSING AND BLEEDING) When I got one of his nurses they were very unconcerened about it. When I told one about what it said on the bottle she just dismissed it as my problem!
I asked if there was anything else that maybe we could change tom again she dismissed it as my problem! I quickly dismissed her!!
Anyway I need some help and advice for what is going on with my body and what I percieve as a reaction to the Plavix.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!
Thanks,
Sundance (RB)

Trying to prevent dry nose, which can contribute to nosebleeds.
I've read that applying Vaseline to nostrils can help.
Do you think that Aquaphor would be just as good, or better (because it's water-soluble)?

My mom had terrible trouble with nosebleeds when our family moved from California to Colorado. Her doctor also suggested she put petroleum jelly in her nose. Seemed to help her.

Not sure if this helps, but I was on both Plavix and aspirin and experienced extensive bruising and easy bleeding after a heart attack. I’m still taking the Plavix after eight months with no issue discontinuing the aspirin with doctors knowledge seems to have helped with both bruising and bleeding

Whether you decide to have the surgery or not you’ll be on a blood thinner for the remainder of your days. Yes bruising is a nasty side effect of all blood thinners. It appears to affect you more sensitively. You have to watch what your doing and where you’re doing it.

Ask your prescribing physician for pradaxa, which is one of several anticoagulant ("blood thinner") prescribed to patients diagnosed with AFIB, or other circulatory system conditions which indicate an increased risk for harmful blood clotting is a concern. The American Heart Association website is a good resource for comparing alternatives-- Do a browser search for dosing Warfarin or Coumadin and navigate to the American Heart association website where you'll find answers to why other therapies are preferred. While Eliquis (generic equivalent: Apixaban) and Pradaxa (generic equivalent: Dabigatran) are both improvements on Coumadin and Warfarin, because they do not require constant testing and and monitoring efforts to maintain optimal dosages. Good RX price for the generic equivalent of Pradaxa, Dabigatran (75, 110, or 150 mg dosage) for a 90 day (180 capsule) prescription at CVS or Target is currently $114.
