Best Calcium Supplement?

Posted by SRKONA @trixie5141, Apr 22, 2024

Which is the best type of calcium supplement? I've been taking calcium citrate (Citracal) which I understand is more easily absorbed than calcium carbonate (Caltrate). Most recently I've been hearing about calcium phosphate as an alternative. I like that it is available as a powder and may be less constipating than calcium citrate but it seems that is calcium phosphate is more for pets. Your thoughts?

The wellness manufacturer where I shop - a long relationship with them and amazing integrity in their R&D - discovered a mineral problem about a decade ago (it can be researched, was in the news) - in that minerals crystallize in the small intestine without some protective process. It’s too much to type here (you can ask me for the research), but the bottom line is they discovered a way to do a protection of the mineral molecules that copies how plants do it by God’s design. And it has two patents on it; to this date…another way has not happened.

It causes the minerals to be ten times more absorbent, according to that patent research.

I think I am a testimony of its effectiveness. Although I was bummed that I broke my hip last year…it was not a fragility break (missed the rung on a ladder with an 18 pound box that I hung on to because contents were breakable and I am 76). It was a clean break, only needed pins, graduated from everything early - even got kicked out of PT because I “didn’t need it anymore” and life carried on. All the medical people from the hospital to the end of the six weeks were amazed.

I am certain that better usable calcium played a part in that. And this whole ordeal of seeing there work has made me really skeptical about anything on the store shelf. They tested 250 name brand supplements in that research and all of them had this problem of crystallizing minerals AND turning into free radicals - destroying any anti oxidants around them. 🙁

Hi Joy,
Please send me the research data and information on the "better useable calcium" you reference in your post on April 24, 2024. Thanks!

After a couple of confusing months I decided to simplify by taking Osteo Sustain and Osteo Stim, each 3 x day. Osteo Sustain is sort of a multi. Of course once I began and had the nutrients all combined I started wishing I could tease them apart... Even though there is only about 160 mg Calcium per tablet, sometimes I don't need it. So now I do a combination of supplements, some meals Sustain, other meals just a K2 supplement. I take the Stim about twice a day- it is pricy. Somewhere in the day I add a B complex, some extra D and maybe Omega 3...
Not too scientific.
Also Fortibone collagen every day. Doing my best to eat a lot of greens and protein
every day, including
some whey protein powder to up that amount. Hoping that by throwing all this at the bones, plus a ton of strengthening exercise, I can make a difference or at least cap losses.

@sonodeka I was just reading your post from June 2024 re: Osteo Stim and Osteo Sustain. Wondering if you have stuck with them and still taking them? I started on Osteo Sustain about 2 months ago, 3/day. I just started Osteo Stim, just 1/day, want to add it in slowly and thinking I will only do 2/day. Also take Fortibone. Have you had any positive or negative experiences on these supplements?

Hi lamd. I finished up my supply of Osteo Sustain and Stim and did not reorder. Was I benefiting from them? I don't know. I went back to taking my supplements separately: Calcium, vit D, MK7, MK4, boron, magnesium glycinate, fish oil. I'm probably missing some of the good things in the Stim. I do use fortibone pretty faithfully. I also started HRT a year ago, and do a lot of exercising and eat well. My 2 year dexa is in November, so crossing my fingers I've held steady.
I'm sure his supplements are good and I hope you benefit from them!

I did the same - stopped taking the McCormick supplements because of cost. I take D3, K2, and calcium as needed. The other things in his supplements, we forget that those often come in our diet. It's not like a pill is the only source.

Hi, thanks very much for responding. I tend to switch up my supplements every so often. I will do McCormick supplements for a while, although it does get expensive. I like Thorne advanced bone support too, but K vitamins are separate. Osteostim has a lot in it, most of which I wouldn’t take otherwise. Hopefully there’s some benefit. Good luck on your upcoming Dexa scan. Hope it goes well. Thank you both.
