I was on the prednisone for just shy of two years

I was diagnosed with PMR in January and have tapered down to 3 mg/day. I'm beginning to feel a little better, thankfully, however ever since I've been on prednisone, my hair has started thinning out and I'm losing some hair every day. I had heard about Biotin (100mg/day) could help. Has anyone had this problem and if so, have they considered Biotin and if it's safe to take? I would ask my rheumatologist however I can't get into see him until perhaps the end of the year!! There's a long, long waiting list!

My hair doesn’t seem to be growing!! But I do take biotin. It really helped before my PMR. I notice hair & nails not growing like they did. But I’m taking it anyway.

My hair has definitely thinned and has been falling out a little at a time. I use a biotin shampoo and conditioner and it makes for shiny hair—not straw-like at all. But it’s so thin and fine! I have an appointment with a dermatologist to check out a crusty little bump on the top of my head. 🤞

Yes I’ve had 50% hair loss with a 4months course of prednisone for PMR & large vessel GCA . And the 50% of hair that didn’t fall suddenly changed texture to fine frizz / fuzz such as others have described here..

My hair is growing back. But I now have an inch undergrowth with longer feathery wispy bits on top .

@allinge I have taken Biotin for years. Works great. Strengthens nails too. I did a 5 day run of prednisone and my hair loss kicked in again. I know it's a slow regrowth. Your hair is a barometer for your heath. I am not a fan of prednisone, it has too many side effects for an autoimmune compromised person.

I was on low dose prednisone for 5 days, and now 8 weeks after the last dose my hair is falling out like crazy—like 50+ strands a day. It’s quite scary, I’m taking biotin and it’s not stopping the fallout.

@vt23 unfortunately I had to take prednisone for almost 2 years dosing from 50 mg down to five. I’m now on Actemra. When I was off the prednisone, my hair fell out in large clumps. It took approximately three months for my hair to start growing again, but thankfully, it is coming in nicely now.

@carlarosie wow that’s quite a while, I can’t imagine. I was only on it for 5 days and it took a tool. I sure hope this won’t take three months, I won’t have any hair left lollllll

@carlarosie
Hi. My doc wants me to go Actemera for GCA/large vessel vascular disease in the aortic artery in heart. So many warnings. Did you find it easy to manage? Any issues? Thank you Ellen
