My pulmonologist said, while stem cells work for some diseases, it doesn' work for lung disease. You will be given your blood stem cells and spend lots of money, time and effort and it will not help you! A complete sham!

My husband's pulmonologist said the very same thing. He actually went and checked one out. He said it is also very difficult for older people to get lung transplants in the U.S.

@tula Thank you for posting that. Many of these Stem Cell clinics ARE shams. That is why your insurance won't cover it.

@windwalker Thanks! Now I know to avoid this for my Stepdad. I can't thank you enough for recommending Mayo Connect. It's a great help!

@joanelle77, Good morning Joanelle. I am so glad that you visited the Lung Health group. Did you see mention of a med that patients with IF use? I had intended to look it up after I checked all of my texts in my group. There are also diff apparatus available to help clear the lungs of mucous. One is called an 'Acapella', it is a gadget that is put to the mouth and provides a pulsing pressure to the lungs to break up phlegm. There is also a vibrating vest that is commonly used on Cystic Fibrosis patients that shakes the phlegm loose. I know it is difficult to watch someone who is struggling to breathe. He may also experience panick attacks. That is common for people with serious lung diseases. Sometimes patients are prescribed a seditive to take when an attack arises. You and your step-dad are in my thoughts.

@joanelle77 Here is a site for the drug 'Ofev' that is prescribed to IF patients. There is info about the disease itself as well. https://www.ofev.com/

@joanelle77 Here is another drug that is prescribed for IF patients...https://www.esbriet.com/
