Acid Reflux and its Symptoms: Are they chronic?

Posted by mwarenski @mwarenski, Feb 13, 2017

Does anyone have a variety of symptoms associated with Acid Reflux that are chronic? Such as chest pain, back pain, weird tastes, etc.? Please tell me your symptoms. A little worried here...thinking it may be something more serious.

I had hernia repair surgery 2 years ago. It left me with gastroparesis. I just found out I have another hernia. I am taking protonix 2x's a day.

Hi @dandl48, unfortunately, I don't have experience with Barrett's. a question though... since you can't have the nissen wrap, are they able to perform the LINX surgery, or do the same restrictions apply? Best of luck with your up-and-coming Mayo visit. Keep us posted.

I'm going to ask again about LINX next Monday when I'm back at Mayo. I think my hernia is too large for it.

told I had barrett':s last November since April have been suffering with itchy and dry throat some drip in morning. A little reflux when lying down a lot of burping Doc has tried a lot of meds on me some of them have given me bouts of loose bowels. I am now on Prilosec 2x a day and still have same problem with throat. Had a throat scan, found nothing.I am worried Barretts will turn bad. Are my symptoms what you guys have experienced with acid reflux. I also have hiatal hernia.

The website asks for Pfitzgerald's password. I don't have it, and can't change it to my account from the page your link brings up. Perhaps you can attach the information to your Connect posts?

I saw Dr Burdick
at Phoenix Mayo and had Linx surgery by Dr. Harold there also, it is a excellent facility if you don't want to travel all the way east.

If you would please share - did you just have it recently? What was your experience with the procedure and recovery time, positive changes for having done it?

Just found out Dr Burdick retired. I've posted about the LINX in the past. If I eat foods that make me gassy it will put pressure on the device and it can be painful.. I found out after the surgery that I had a fructose intolerance even though Mayo tested me for it and it was negative. I still had to take 2 Zantac a day after surgery but when I cut out the fruit and sugar I haven't taken any since. I would like to have the LINX stretched but waiting for a replacement Dr for Dr Burdick. I would suggest cutting out food groups before surgery and see if your intolerant to possibly grains, lactose, fructose, ect. They are more common then we think. Cutting out fruit, which I loved, also lowered my A1C to normal, stopped the foot cramps, lost weight, cystitis went away and burning stomach. Eating the wrong foods can cause autoimmune diseases. The "Plant Paradox" by Dr. Gundry is excellent in explaining this.

Thank you for your input. I, too, love fruit, but even bananas, apples, peaches, etc. cause me discomfort. I will avoid them and see if it helps. I take 300 mg. of ranitidine twice a day as I refuse to take PPIs so far. Now it isn't working that well, but maybe if I avoid fruit and sugar it will improve things. My gastroenterologist has given me homework fo gather info on the LINX procedure and I am very interested in experiences from people who have had the procedure done and have lived with it for a at least a year.

I have Barrett’s Esophagus and wondered if anyone has it that has gone into high dysplasia?  I have had two RFA TREATMENTS but they have come back also high dysplasia. I have also had an EMR IN Sept 27 and am suppose to go back for another RFA treatment in December.  I wonder if anyone else had had their high dysplasia cured by these endoscopic treatments. I would like to hear from you. How long did it take to get rid of the Barrett’s?
