Recovery expectations 6 weeks after HoLEP prostate surgery.

Posted by 2longlife @2longlife, Jul 14, 2024

I had the HolEP procedure six weeks ago. All is good except that I have a dull pain in the perineum area when I urinate. Is this because of the long healing time for the urethra? Is this normal? My follow up appointment with my urologist is six weeks away.

I am thinking that I will stay on Flowmax! This HoLep doesn't sound good, I had enough problems with Aquablation that only helped 7 months and prior to that a Urolift that didn't help at all. Seen doctor yesterday and asked why Aquablation only lasted 7 months and not 5 years or possible 10 years like promised, all he said was guess they didn't take out enough tissue, would I like another procedure. Said NO, I getting by on Flowmax. Interesting that you folks are having this leakage, I was told there only a 1 percent chance of that happening.

So, it has been more than a year. I am having no problems, no leakage, no Flowmax. All good and I would recommend HoLep enthusiastically.

I had a HOLEP in March 2025, and I still have burning sensation when peeing, difficult begin urinating and hesitancy. The same symptoms when I had BPH, prior to the surgery

Sorry to hear that, makes me think better stay on Flowmax. Tried Urolift- no good. Then went to a high rated Medical School in Kansas for Urology, Listed as"High Performing" hospital in Urology by U.S. News & World Report number 7 in adult specialties, including Urology . Had an Aquablation there and after a month of misery had 7 month of blasting away- then back on Flowmax. Lots of excuses from hospital and now recommend HoLep or another more aggressive Aquablation. When they say more aggressive, I wonder why they weren't more aggressive in first place? Think I will pass on both.

I had my HoLep procedure done 12 weeks ago. The best decision that I ever made. My first 10 weeks post surgery I had a lot of incontinence issues. Going through a lot of depends and pads. I have been seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist weekly. She has been a game changer. I highly recommend seeing one if you are going through this. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. Down to just a minor dribble. Other than this issue I have felt great and pee with no pain or problem. Consider HoLep surgery. It is a game changer.

The fact you had 7 months of great voiding would maybe indicate some kind of stricture may havevdeveloped that could msybe be addressed with a scoping and maybe a bit of touch up turping in a particular spot.

I had the scoping last Wednesday and asked if there was new growth. He said no new growth, there was obstructive tissue present at the apex. It seems he was saying that Aquablation just didn't remove some of that hard tissue???
But then when I ask why things were okay for 7 months and I don't really get an answer that I understand, just continues saying some tissue is too tough for Aquablation to remove and they were being really careful so I didn't have RE. I know- it is not logical. This doctor just doesn't make logically sense with his answers. He works also as an associate professor and at another hospital that isn't a medical school.

You’re right, those answers don’t make sense to me either.
