Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

I haven't been on this form in a while since I've recovered from constant mucus a while back but I thought I would share what fixed it for me. I had a tonsil infection about 8 months ago and did a round of antibiotics. About a few days after I finished my prescription I noticed it was gone. Now all the things that used to give me crazy mucus like cardio, alcohol, sugar and coffee etc no longer affect me. It may be worth a try to everyone that is struggling as I had it for almost 4 years so I know how incredibly annoying it can be.

I also have the same issue. I've been taking pseudoephedrine red tabs recommended 4-6 hrs.
Taking 2 in the morning, then 2 before bed, has helped tremendously. It's still present, but greatly decreased phlegm.
Chronic fatigue still exists, as well.

After almost 4 years later I went to another ENT and discovered I have a white phelgm (leukopiaka) on my vocal box/cords. Which causes a sensation of mucus and discomfort. Unknown to me not sure how long I have had this because initially this was not diagnosed at my 1st visit 4 yrs ago!. After going to 2 gastrologists several tests, endoscopy, cat scan, Bravo test, xray of my throat (swallowing)looks like they were looking in the wrong area!!! I was given medicine for possible fungus on the vocal cords which was negative. Si now I am having a biopsy on the vocal cords which is very difficult since the area is so delicate. My doctor said it could be dysplasia (precancerous cells) or cancer (praying ). My feelings are so mixed so thankful for this 2nd visit to a new ENT yet angry for all the testing I have gone through looking for acid reflux. My symptoms from day 1 mucus stuck in my throat which I could not cough up and hoarseness which has gotten worse.... writing this for all who suffer from some disease that we need to diagnose ourselves when the medical field are blindsighted. I was told , I really dont know what it is, given several types of meds , and learn to live with it. Is this from covid, who knows says its from smoking (40 yrs ago). Alcohol (social drinker). I guess I shouldn't complain finally have a plan pray my voice isn't affected and not cancer. Good luck to all of you, I have shared many messages in regards to several mucus its just mine was caused from something else.

Hello Boo!
I can definitely feel your pain! Please see my other posts & comments here. I have been able to totally get this under control with Xhance, Albuterol & Mucinex. Xhance did wonders when I could get it!

Mine is just hoarseness and phlegm in my throat the keeps me up all night. My nose closes off when I lie down but the phlegm collects in my throat and makes me feel like I’m choking then I can’t breathe through my nose so I have to sit up. All night.
I found nasal spray before bed and taking guiafennessen helps but then the nasal spray stops working. The steroid one doesn’t seem to work so I used decongestant one. Then I used saline and try to get it to run down my throat a little and one side at a time move it back and forth in one nostril and blow your nose gently. After that try to hawk the phlegm out and repeat other side. Sometimes this loosens it up and you can get some out. Sleep with head elevated
In morning drink coffee this helps it go down. I’ve tried all this since I got the problem with Covid. I’ve been waiting for Dr appointment sinceNov of 2024.

Good luck! Mine doesn’t get worse with eating that seems to push awwwwit down. I’m still hoarse, I Sound like a frog.

Why would it take so long ro get an appt woth a dr? Make an appt with an ENT, Hoarseness is coming from voice box. I wasted 3 years going to 2 gastroligists...tests, medicines .

We'll see how long it continues but just had my best two days I've had in the last 3.5 years so I thought I would share now.

New additions:
Montelukast two times a day (instead of prescribed once daily). Adding this seems to have helped normalize phlegm consistency and reduce output

Azithromycin 250mg daily (am)

Zyrtec (am)

Omega 3 pill

Quercetin

I've also increased how much I sleep and now get 7 hours instead of 6.

Exercise a few times a week.

Eat low gluten, low simple carb, low sugar.

I would say that the addition of Montelukast, Azithromycin has made a big difference and allowed me to eat more carb heavy food without triggering massive phlegm production. However, let's see how it goes when I have to talk all day at work.

I hope this improvement continues for me and I hope it helps some of you as well if you follow this regimen. Please share your results if you do.

Peter
