Hylauronic Gel Injections in the Knees...Anyone?

Posted by covidstinks2023 @covidstinks2023, Jun 1, 2024

I had Hylauronic Gel Injections in my knees for arthritis back in December to help with lubricating the joints and to keep from getting so many cortisone injections for the pain. One knee is bone on bone.

It has helped greatly with the pain in my knees (so grateful!), BUT, my knees feel heavy and have gotten so stiff since the injections.

I asked the doctor about it and he said it happens at the onset but goes away quickly.....mine hasn't.

Anyone else had this issue?

Thank you and God Bless You All!

Hi Sam,

Sounds like it may be time to get the knee replaced. What are your thoughts on that?

Thank you for your response. I have not decided on that. I am 46 and trying to delay as much as i can. lets see.

I have bone on bone arthritis in both knees and have taken 2 kinds of hyaluronic acid tablets (One collagen and one collagen and boron and frankincense) for 12 years.

Went years without no pain.
Now just have knee pain sometimes during the night and when I wake up which goes away when up.

See if you can get a referral for some gentle one-on-one PT to get those leg muscles working better.

Leg muscles are important for balance and walking.

Hi Sam,

Yeah 46 is really young for a total knee replacement. I had mine done when I was 67 and it was because I was in constant pain. But my knees started to get bad when I was around your age. I ran my last marathon in 1999, and I last ran in 2003. I managed to get by with non-impact training.

If you don't have significant daily pain, and you can work around any limitations from the knee, by all means hold off for a while. I wish you all the best!

Hey Sam,
I agree with @ heyjoe415 when he said you were too young. I’m 81 and just had my second TKR but I think I held out too long. I played organized basketball for 25 years and my knees supported me well. But now it’s my turn to support them.
Get a good orthopedic doctor and then get a second opinion. An old man’s advice. Just remember:”Wisdom comes with age…sometimes age comes alone”
Blessings to you young man.

Thank you. I am 84 with bone on bone both knees but only one hurts. I’m scheduled for the first of three weekly hyaluronic acid injections this coming week. Are oral pills as or more effective?
I also take daily collagen.

marianjw, What kind of oral pills are you thinking about?

Make sure the doctor does Lidocaine to numb on your knee before the injection or it
will be painful. All I feel is pressure and a sting for a few seconds.

My injections last me a year, but, everyone is different.

Praying it goes well for you. Blessings....

Thanks for the suggestion, prayers and information. I was thinking of the liquid hyaluronic acid (Baxley) which I was reading was very helpful to some people. Am feeling optimistic about the injections!

Thanks. I have my first injection in 3 days. I am hopeful as the underlying ache after a night’s rest and acetaminophen wear off is discouraging. Will report how it goes.
