Husband with untreated depression/anxiety

Posted by roseann4z @roseann4z, Jul 19 10:07am

My husband has untreated depression & anxiety for most of his life. We have been married for47 years & are in our 70’s now. He has been on medication in the past and it was helpful sometimes-others not. He gave up 10 years ago because he didn’t like the side effects. He refuses counseling or even talking to me about his feelings. As we have gotten older, this has become almost unbearable for both of us. I am a cancer survivor and want to enjoy my good days & have some support on my bad. I am willing to do this for him but he’s shut off. I feel hopeless.
Does anyone have any ideas, advice, hope for me? Don’t know where to turn. Thank you!

Dear Rose
Thank you for replying to me about the problem you are having trying to take to your Hubby. Why I understand is your Hubby has gone into shock & it is his way of trying to handle the problem he has. How do I know this because when I was told I had Pancreatic & Liver Cancer I did much the same & when my wife would try to talk to me I would also shut down because I don't think she really understood what was going on inside my head, The Best think I think you can do is just let him be, do not try and push him just try and be a little bit more understanding he just want to be left in peace. Mean time you yourself must try and find away to fill in your days by going out to friends placers and talking to them about your problems, But just leave Hubby alone Ok
Take Care Rose

It's been my experience that one will eventually do "something" when they "get tired of being sick and tired!" I would enjoy the battle that you won with cancer, let him know that you love him and are here for him and willing to help when the time comes. Other than that, unfortunately, there is not much more to do.

Thank you for your reply PML > Now I will tell you a little bit about myself & why I asked you that question. To start with let me say that it's fine with me that you are a very big believer in God & sorry to say it, but I'm not a believer at all & why I'm not a believer.
To start with I'm 80 yrs old & had a great life, I'm still married to an Angel after
43 yrs but on 18 July 24 last year I found out I have Liver & Pancreatic Cancer with no cure only Chemo treatment. I've had 6 months of it 5hrs each time which is a killer on it own at my age, now I'm now having Immunotherapy once a month fooled up with a PET scan on the 4 month .
Ok so now you know a little bit about me. While I have been going through hell fighting my Cancer I sit in a room with lots of others who are in the same room as me and see the looks on there facers & I can see the fear in there eyes of Death. As I said, I am 80 yrs old and lots & lots of them are only aged about 18 up Boys and Girls , Also I am only talking about the Hospital that I am being treaded in, Just 1 Hospital only. As for myself I'm ready for ever is a head of me.
Now why I asked you that question about Who made us was it God ???? & your reply was Yes. Lets look at it this way. If God made us don't you think he should go back to the drawing board and start all over again because he was our maker righter ????. Why I ask you this sit back & think about all the illness
we come into this world with lots of time, kids are born with all sorts of Illness even before they take there first steps it would be hart braking to the new Mums & Dads all over the world, I am not Only talking about Cancers here I'm talking about all sorts of things from Heart or Brain or any part of out body, Remember You did say God made us, so how can anyone, not only You but anyone puts so much Faith in someone or something that made you in the first place with so many Illness. & that is Why I think God should go back to the drawing board and start all over again, only lets hope he does a much better job next time on making the human race. ??????????????
I wish you well PML & Please don't think I'm pulling you apart because in what you believe in. I have lots and lots of friends who also are believers in God but they don't try and push ever one else into believing in it just because they do.
Take Care

Hi Razorsharp,
I'm so sorry that you have cancer! That's awful and so hard to deal with. It's good that you have a wonderful wife and have for 43 years! I'm sure that helps you get through this bad time.

God did make us but Satan causes us to get the illnesses we have, cancers, heart attacks, etc. God heals us and gets rid of the illness; whether it's here on Earth or when we die and go to Heaven and have no more illness. I don't know why God allows Satan to do that but that's the way it is. Praying helps and increases wellness.

I hope you didn't think I was pushing my religion on you. You did ask me if God made the human race. I was merely explaining how I knew this to be true, at least to me. That's why I told you what works for me and then mentioned the Biblical proof. (It's a leftover habit of all the research I did in college.)

You have the right to believe however you want to. This is America and that's one of the things that make it such a great country. I hope everything works out well for you and I will say a prayer for you.
I wish you the best.

Hi Razorsharp,
Thanks for getting back to me. I appreciate the kind words. I looked at the fife but my computer wouldn't open it. I looked at the title and noticed it said JesusJPG. Is it supposed to show a picture of Jesus? What did you see when you looked at it? Jesus is the son of God. Many people think Jesus and God are the same person but they are not. In the Bible God stated, "This is my son in whom I am well pleased." when Jesus was being baptized by John the Baptist. But enough about religion.

My husband had lung cancer. He died a year ago. When he had Keytruda it almost killed him! One of the side effects of it is pancreatitis and he got that. Also the chemotherapy reacted badly on him too. Finally, my husband just refused to have anymore of their drugs. The doctors didn't like it, but it was his body and his money! The Keytruda alone cost $25,000 an infusion! After he quit the medications my husband lived with stage 4 lung cancer for 14 years. He wasn't feeling ill until the last year of his life.

So, you are in Sydney, Australia. How nice! My husband and I used to order lobsters from a place in West Australia. They were so good! They tasted like lobster used to taste in the 1960's. That's because Australia's water is still clean. I live in Edmonds, Washington which is 15 miles north of crime ridden Seattle. Both areas used to have wonderful seafood but now it's all polluted. I never eat the seafood from here anymore. Only from Australia when I can afford it.
I hope things go well for you with your cancer. I'll still pray for you.
I wish you the best.

Good morning PML
Yes if you can see the 4 little dots that is a start all you need to do is try & make the picture a little bit bigger & then do as I said.
You should see a shadow of the face of Jesus, A friend sent it to me and I could
not believe what I was looking at.
Reading about your Hubby Cancer & Mine is that my Cancer is all still in the Blood in the Liver & Pancreatic. it has not yet gone to any other parts of my body at the moment but it keeps showing up in other parts of my Liver , It's only a matter of time before it gets away and that is the part that I'm Not looking forward to because of the pain that come with it
Would you like me to send you some Lobster from Australia LOL >(:0) ????
Take care & Bye Bye From Aussie

Hi Razorsharp!
Thank you for getting back to me. I didn't see any red dots but I'll try and make the picture bigger as you suggested.

You and your wife look so nice in your picture! Your wife has the prettiest red hair! I always wanted red hair but only had blonde.

About your cancer, what really helped my husband with his cancer was eating good quality red meat. I know they insist these days that it's not good for you but I'm sure it is a large part of the reason that my husband lived 14 more years! Your body is fighting a disease and it needs all the help it can get. There is a lot of iron and omega 3 in red meat which is very good for you.

Thank you for the offer of the lobster! That was very kind! That lobster would help your cancer also. You might want to try some. It's a large company near Perth in West Australia. They sell it much cheaper from their store than what we paid online. If I can find the name of it, I'll let you know. Or, you could call the Perth Library and ask them. It's a well known lobster company.

I will still pray for both you and your wife going through this whole thing with your cancer.
I wish you both the best!
