Frequency of flareups for COPD enough to have to go on anabiotic’s

Posted by romoney1 @romoney1, Jul 6, 2025

I was wondering how many frequencies people seem to have say a month six months mine seem to be every month and a half or two I have to go to the hospital and get antibiotics and steroid shot in order to get rid of the excess phlegm. I can’t get rid of enough of it. It just keeps producing. Can anybody give me the light up on that?

I have been on arithomycin ( 500mg)for years 3 times a week. I also take Ipatropium Bromide nasal spray twice a day. I have severe allergies and I've notice in the past anytime I became ill or had exasperation the root cause seem to be my sinuses. Knock on wood no ER visits for 7 years now.

Thank you I believe I’ll give that try. Maybe it is my sinuses I use a saline solution. Is that OK?

Yes, I have the type of problem, about every 3 months or so I get pneumonia and go on antibiotics. I have helped myself by wearing a mask around crowds or any one sick, and I use Disinfectant a lot to spray everything I touch as best as I can and my hands and if I pet my dog. And more . Like to work in the garden and dirt sure has a lot of Germs so I wash my hands all the time and have not had a flare up now for 7 months and just had one and my doctor gave me prednisone and antibiotics. Hope that might help you Gil

I have Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis and Asthma. Last year I was in the emergency room9 or 10 times. My PC doctor referred me to a Pulmonologist and an ENT. The ENT treated me for a vestibular infection and the Pulmonologist put me on Dulera. I have only used my Albuterol once since April and I am breathing normally all of the time now.
I suffered with repeated ER visits for 5 or 6 years. The Dulera has made a huge difference.

Yes there is validity in chest percussion. It is part of the pulmonary hygiene your physician and/or nurse should discuss and teach you to do. I will try to find a site for you to review. It helps even more when you your chest is inverted downward...also let's gravity help move the secretions up and out.

I sure am glad to hear that are back to normal and doing good, and I can understand that how you must feel. I have Emphysema and been taking Dulera for a long time and other meds to help in a Nebulizer. Gil

I take Bevespi with Albuterol as rescue. The problem I'm having is the Bevespi doesn't seem to be working well for me. I'm using my Albuterol more and more. Went to ER twice last month for nebulizer treatments for sudden loss of breath that I couldn't control. Diagnosed with pneumonia that I never realized I had. Still having sudden breathing issues and haven't been stable since. Frustrated to say the least.
