Post Evenity DEXA numbers
So, I have my results after 12 months on Evenity.
Lumbar spine went from-2.5 to -1.8.
Left hip went from-2.0 to -1.8.
For the right hip and right femoral neck,
there are no scores, presumably because they are now titanium.

Thank you. I hope you are healing well after your surgery. Hugs!
How did you calculate the improvement percentage? I didn’t seem able to get your numbers.
I’m completing my Evenity injection next week and my
dexa results between 6/2024 and 7/2025:
Left Neck: -3.9 to -3.1 +20.5%
Left Femur Total: -3.5 to -3.0 +14.3%
L1-L4: -3.8 to -2.3 +39.5%
No right hip was tested as the test center said they only do noncomitant hip 🥹
Are the new test results possible? Seems too good improvement to be true. I did the tests at two different locations because the recent test at SimonMed Imaging reports TBS.
Wonderful results @yingjichi, congratulations!
The percentage improvement is calculated using BMD (g/cm^2), not T scores.
If 2 different machines are used, just make a note of machine type. In general, GR machines tend to read about 11% higher than Hologic ones. There are online tools to help adjust for that so the calculation won't be skewed by the machine types.
What's your TBS score from the new scan? Thanks
SimonMed Imaging Center just called me: they gave me the wrong information.🥹
I’m going there this afternoon to redo the imaging. Too good to be true was correct. Hope they don’t mess up this time. I have an appointment with my endocrinologist tomorrow morning to decide follow up treatment.
Apologies for the typo - I meant to write "GE machine", not "GR machine" in my last post. Sorry for any confusion.
Improvement in your T score is definitely possible. The highest improvement I've seen mentioned on this forum was around 30% with evenity. It's just that the percentage improvement is calculated based on BMD (g/cm^2), not the T score. For most of us who have osteoporosis or osteopenia, BMD is a number between 0.400 - 0.999 (g/cm^2).
For example, my femoral neck T score improved from -2.4 to -2.0, BMD from 0.587 to 0.624 (g/cm^2): this is a 6.3% improvement. However, if we use T score, that's a 16.6% improvement (which is not correct).
Thank you so much for the machines/comparison calculation explanation and example. Now I feel better to do the comparisons.
Just found out my last year’s machine was Hologic. Yet to find out today’s machine 😊
I hope you see great improvement! My doctor recommended Evenity for me. What side effects, if any, did you experience?
I did all possible adjustments including GE and Hologic conversion from g/cm2 to mg/cm2 based on the online conversion “app”. Femur ranged from 6.5% - 19.3%, Spine from 10.9% - 35.8%; down from my original comparison using T-Score. I’m thrilled! All the hard work seems to have paid off in some respects.
I met my new endocrinologist today and she recommended Prolia for 3-4 doses and switch back to Evenity to build more bones. Evenity needs at least 1 year sabbatical (😜) before going back to. She said Prolia is a stronger medicine than Reclast; as long as there is follow-up switch to a different med, the rebound fracture issue should not be too serious. I was originally inclined to do Reclast but now am thinking of Prolia as a transitional med before Evenity again.
What’s your thought on this? Thanks!
Fatigue was the main side effect. I needed to slow down on my exercises before and after the injections or I would be really really tired. Hydration was very important too especially before and after the shots. I did all injections on my belly with no issues.
Hi Susanfalcon52, I never did post my DEXA scores, so here they are.
The results are for DEXAs taken Jan 2022, Mar 2023 and Jul 2024 (after completing 1 year of Evenity:
Lumbar Spine: -3.4 / -3.6 / -2.5
Left Total Hip: -2.5 / -2.8 / -2.4
Left Femoral Neck: -2.6 / -2.7 / -2.6
Left 1/3 Distal Radius: -4.9 / Not taken / -5.4
I was reluctant to post due to the result of the wrist. I've talked to all three docs about this and two of them say that the DEXA machine can not measure cortical bone accurately. It explains why the forearm is omitted from many scans. To me, ignoring the issue is not an ideal solution so I will continue to request the distal radius along with the standard DEXA locations. I had a Reclast infustion in August and will follow up with another DEXA scan next month. I've also been weight training with a personal trainer (ONERO programish), and will post those DEXA numbers then. Fingers crossed I've either improved again or at least have kept the gains. Thanks and best of luck.
