Looking for tips to stop estradiol cream

Posted by kathym653 @kathym653, Jun 27 11:53am

I am 72, had a total hysterectomy over 20 years ago. Took Premarin for (about) 8 years to get me through menopause. A few years ago I was diagnosed with vaginal atrophy, dryness, burning, itching, pain. Was prescribed Estradiol vaginal cream, using 1 gm 3x weekly with success. I've tried to taper off (worried about the estrogen) but the symptoms return. I haven't had a gyn exam for a few years either. I know I'm way overdue but my husband has cancer and it's taken up most of my spare time. Has anyone else been able to successfully stop the cream without rebounding?

Yes a soft pink pellet - I insert it twice a week - Tuesdays and Fridays at bedtime. Vaginal atrophy occurs after menopause and is when the vagina dries out and the tissue becomes itchy and burning. Maybe you need to use the estradiol twice a week. And yes, being female and older does suck! Take care and if you need to talk don’t hesitate. xo p.s. when I was on the Vagifem I was told to insert two pellets each time twice a week. This was advice from my GYN.
