I see a few remedies and most are only stating what we all know, we had the first one, it scared us but resolved in a few minute to an hour and we have had them off and on for years afterwards with varying frequencies with little or no ill effects except the loss of vision. My question is with so many of us experiencing this (aura with no pain) why no effective way to deal with it??? All I see is dark, quiet, compresses, drink something (maybe caffeine?) and wait. I keep a diary and have failed to recognize any trigger. Maybe for me it is MSG but just a guess. I had thought sleep and stress but had one today and neither of those were issues for me but maybe it is latent??? HELP us figure this out. Thanks
Very frustating having to guess at triggers. Early this Spring, I had it happen two days in a row (a first) and could only figure it was changes in air pressure.

I guess it will be individually specific triggers but I think that out there somewhere is someone who has a trick to at least help us avoid the aura or maybe cut them off or shorten their duration. I am lucky that there’s no pain associated but they are still annoying and when more frequent a bit worrisome too. Thanks for the reply
As far as I know it is the classic aura associated with migraines without pain. A C-shaped expanding shimmer lasting in my case 29-25 minutes. Had them now for about 10 years, lately more frequent (12 in the past 7 months) but I have been actively trying to lose weight and exercising a bit more.

Have you had MRIs and Scans of your brain? I get auras sometimes 2x week, but I already have the migraine that is persistent now for 6 years every day/all day.

No MRI as what I go through is classic and fortunately for me no pain, just annoying and relatively short lived. If the frequency continues as it is I will seek more attention.
It’s not related to the eye. I’ve been getting this since I was around 20, and I’m nearly 60 now.
I believe sodium nitrate and sodium nitrite, which are preservatives found in fast foods and cold cuts can cause the blood vessels in the brain to temporarily constrict. Taking aspirin everyday can prevent this. Or taking either aspirin or any other NSAID as soon as the event begins will stop it right away.

Are you sure it's a migraine?

1 ReactionThanks. I’ll use this info
I should add that I’m not a doctor. This is just my personal experience.
