Husband newly diagnosed

Posted by momshmallow @momshmallow, Jun 8 10:21pm

My husband is only 62 and was just diagnosed with Esophageal cancer. It sounds serious and I am very frightened. I want him to go to Boston which is only 35 minutes away where they appear to have a specialty group. How long can the wait be?

Being diagnosed at stage 1 is a gift. Usually people are unfortunately further along in the progression
when finally diagnosed. It is a tough journey but full of success stories.
Best wishes on your treatment, let us know about your journey.

Sending you prayers and strength. My husband, also diagnosed at 62, is on the other side of treatment after a full year and a half. It has been harder than we expected, in all honesty, but very manageable. Some of his friends are experiencing differenty types of cancers and his treatment plans seems to be the most rigorous and taxing. BUT, we're on the other side of it!

I suggest getting the best care possible for his team. We traveled to Chicago - an hour and a half away from home - for his surgery and post op. It was worth it to have one of the nation's top surgeons on his case. His local doc suggested this.

Please find every way to care for yourself during this journey. I failed at that pretty miserably and am now paying the price with a ton of exhaustion and a bit of resentment. We are working through both but it has been a strain for various reasons, mostly because everything in our lives has been on hold since the diagnosis. However, life is moving on with grand babies being born, travel beckoning, many celebrations across the region, so we're finding the best way to move along with it. I am more than ready and he isn't so much yet.

I wish your family all the best and you will be in my prayers!
