Treating Long Covid as Inflamation Based

Posted by gregorb @gregorb, May 29 11:15am

Thought that Long Covid is inflammation driven in attacking our bodies? Please correct me if I'm wrong. If so, why aren't the treatments based more on that, if clinically effective. Sure, you can talk about the issue of possible addiction to pain and inflammation killing medications and doctors reluctantance to treat that way,
even with monitoring. But guessing quality of life may be more important to many of us at this point. Especially for seniors.

@diverdown1. I will be the contrarian. There is a lot of scientific debate on what does and doesn’t cause problems around histamine. The app I’ve referenced “intolerances” is very good (and German) at pointing to the foods/drinks that are highly debated and why they are highly debated, sometimes stating “no scientific evidence exists”. One other thing about the app. It states milligrams of histamine per portion. That’s extremely helpful when you want a little of something (like balsamic vinegar) allowing me to stay under my target of 4 milligrams per day. 4 milligrams per day is reported to be average histamine intake. It’s rather hard to navigate things and achieve goals without a number.

So much confusing information out there. I often feel like a detective. Good luck to us all. Trying an antihistamine for the first time today. Found small doses of Melatonin (1/2 gram work for me and keep my sleep and relaxation more stable and help a bit with anxiety. But that's just me. Good luck everyone. Support is here.

@diverdown1 There are several apps dealing in food allergies that include histamine intolerance. The basic theory is that there are things we eat/drink that have quantities of histamine and then there are things we eat/drink that cause histamine release. Alcohol is a histamine released because it affects our bodies ability to deal with histamine. Big subject and I use the app “intolerances” and Google and make notes in a drive to stay under 4 milligrams per day. And the punch line - histamine causes inflammation

A few simple changes in my diet went a long way into helping me cope with my Long Covid. A few months into Long Covid my mental status had deteriorated to the point that I’d wake up with good mental clarity each morning but by noon or 1 pm each day I’d have full-blown dementia. Pretty scary. After reading up on low-histamine diet I stopped drinking coffee. Within only a few days I was back to normal.

Thank you for the information. I looked up "Intolerance's" on Google play store. The highest rated app is $9.99. Is this the one you to which you are referring?

@diverdown1 It has a strawberry logo and is offered by a German company

Hi @pfraz54. My personal journey and @gregorb comments spot on. If I may further suggest my providers explained our brains are literally affected creating different reactions physically and mentally which has significantly been helped with trauma level mental health and neurological physical therapist. Even for myself living with this, I dont recognize myself sometimes and truly grateful for my loved ones who remember the person I was and my true intentions for all aspects of life. He is lucky to have you and wish the right resources come quickly to help both of you on this journey🌈

My Dr. seems to think that my long covid symptoms should clear up in about another year. I have two symptoms, maybe 3. The first and worst so far is the extreme exhaustion after attempting anything vaguely resembling work. I feel fine, but if I should go outside and do Any kind of yard work, even pulling a few weeds, after about 8 to 10 minutes I am sweating profusely and totally exhausted and Must go inside and lay down for 20 or 30 minutes to regain a little energy. That one has been ongoing for about a year so far and started after my second Covid. The second is a little weird. I had double vision extremely bad during my second covid for about 3 days but got better pretty quickly. However, although I now see good directly to the front, If I have to look to either side, by moving my eyes, the double vision is still there. But I did notice just today that it seems to be getting better. Time will tell on that one. It might just go away. The Maybe Third one is increased level of stress, but that could just be from experiencing the other 2. Ashwagunda seems to be helping with that.

Different, but relevant. I wrote the following poem for a friend's mother suffering Alzheimer's...

[REMEMBER ME]
J. R. G. © 8/13/2010

Remember the me you've known so well
when me is so ever hard to find
in the recesses of my own mind

Remember, too,
there is nothing in this world
big or strong enough
able to separate a soul
from love firmly rooted
in the very heart of God

Memory eludes me now,
so let the photographs of your memory
bring to life the time we've shared ~
weeping with the sorrows
and laughing with the joys
that remembering brings to heart and mind

Life on this side is but a wisp ~
with all its trials and its triumphs,
a time of preparation
to ready us for what is yet to come

Be of good courage and know,
just as you are, I am at rest
in the Everlasting Arms of Love
that will surely see us safely Home

Look past my faltering mind
to see inside my soul
and remember the me you've known so well
that loudly proclaims in unison with the Father

"I've loved you always,
and love you now,
and will love you forevermore"

Blessings to all of us who wakes to the stranger of someone we've known so well. Either the stranger companion or the stranger looking back at you in the mirror.

Dr. Bruce Patterson's working theory is that the root cause of LC symptoms is Vascular Inflammation and he has a course or treatment to cure vascular inflammation. I am about 4 months into his program, feeling better, and my blood numbers are changing which gives me more and more confidence in his regimen.

Hello all ... I can give you some good news. I have first hand knowledge of Dr. Patterson and his work. A clinical trial just got announced ... which will formally run his Protocol through a double-blind RCT! It's just got recorded onto ClinicalTrials.gov (go there and do a search using this string ... NCT06974084) and they are not yet recruiting subjects/patients. I've also had a friend say you can now go here to get testing (https://defeatlongcovid.com/). Unfortunately, insurance is slow in covering the test (the only test for Long COVID!) but it would determine if you could access Dr. Patterson's treatment protocol. Hoping you can access ... but provide any feedback. If I find out when the Clinical Trial actually starts signing up, I'll post.
