Thanks for your reply. When l was prescribed Gabapentin, l was not told that l would have to get off of it too. My question to the Dr was, " Now that l am taking Gabapentin, isn't that just as bad to discontinue?" He said, "No'. I am hoping his answer is correct for me.
Withdrawal won’t be too bad if you take a low dose and don’t take it for more than a few months. Many compare gabapentin withdrawal to benzo withdrawal.

My opinion is you should not stop taking any medication without speaking your doctor first and tell them you want to stop taking the medication. Because everyone reacts to differently to medication and you may not be able to handle a withdrawal without help from a professional Doctor. They will taper you off the medication. Never stop taking a prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor . Side effects can be very serious ,
Hi everyone I'm new on here hoping to encourage everyone and get some help too. I've been on 2mgs Clonopin am/pm for 20 Years now and I want to be done with this drug! My med Dr doesn't encourage me too, but I know my body and at 53yrs old now, I don't want this in my body anymore!
I don't know if I should go through my PCP and go through a "Med Wash" of the Clonopin and do it in a safe environment, I do have excellent insurance.
Or do it on my own and take half in the morning at night 1 mg for a week, then half both morning and night for the next week.
Then the following week split the half in half for a week.
Then a quarter in the morning and night for a week then stop.
Any suggestions???
I know how you all feel.... It's like being addicted to something that we are made to feel by our Dr we can never get off of and it's the worst feeling ever. Like we aren't in control and they are. My heart ❤️ goes out to all of you on this platform ❤️
I would google it & ask a pharmacist. I would get off of it but don’t go cold Turkey. I’m not familiar with this drug. Maybe ask one of your other drs.
I took 1mg nightly for over a decade. It’s going on two years benzo free, and I feel that my brain is still trying to normalize. This is no joke, and I had a psychiatrist managing it. We did a reduction every 6 weeks. 1, .75, .5, .25, 0.125 and done. The anxiety and insomnia were bad starting at .25mg and he offered nothing for those issues. I suffered for months before I got to a sleep doctor. The right doctor to manage it is crucial, and even then, might not be best for you. I admire your courage. I’m glad I’m on the other side.

it sound as though you have a good plan. I would take your thoughts and plans and confirm it with either the PCP that put you on it or the psychiatrist.....just to make sure.
I don't know why there are so many that suggest speaking with your pharmacist. Even Package inserts will mention this... Has anyone tried to do that? Most Pharmacists are reluctant to render advice as they feel that they could be held liable, which is probably true. I have been a nurse for over 45 years and often times will be asked questions pertaining to a medical condition and/or medication and will preface my discussion "ask your Doctor what he thinks about this.......... At the end of the day the patient and physician have the ultimate decision.

Thanks for your reply... Now l know exactly what to expect...it isn't going to be a good time...
@spreels2
I had no withdrawals tapering from
18 mg.
Go very slowly!!
Take care,
Jake
The average dose for anxiety is 300 mgs. which is considered low. I can see why you had no withdrawal symptoms. That’s a minuscule amount.
