Has anyone found a treatment that helps with peripheral neuropathy?

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Jul 1 10:27am

I suspect that everyone on this forum has been searching for a medication that helps their neuropathy and even though you no that all the internet claims are false we continue to waste hundreds of pounds. Desperation is a powerful force. Has any one been fortunate enough to find a genuine treatment. I just can’t believe that there are so many awful people who prey on our vulnerability and knowingly orchestrate such elaborate scams.

I take Na-R-ALA and Methylcobalamin B12 together in the morning and evening daily along with other neuropathy supplements described in another post here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/957496/.

Hi my name is Gilbert. I suffer from neuropathy also have been dealing with this for 15 years. I take pregabalin but it doesn't seem to relieve the pain and tingling and stiffening in my foot. Now i started to aching in my thigh that just started a few months ago. I was just wondering if any over-the-counter medication for neuropathy has helped you the ones that you just posted? Thank you for sharing. Have a good day

Welcome Gilbert @quadwilly, I only have the numbness and started looking into supplements to hopefully slow or possibly stop the progression of my idiopathic small fiber PN and although I still have the numbness, I feel it hasn't gotten any worse. I shared my neuropathy journey in another discussion here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/310341/.

There are many different discussions and member posts on what helps with neuropathy if you want to scan through them - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=neuropathy+what+helps. The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy is also a great source for information - https://www.foundationforpn.org/therapies/.

Nortriptylene, R-Alpha Lipoic Acid, turmeric, and magnesium glycenate have greatly helped reduce the pain from my foot neuropathy. Exercise seems to help too, and I gave up alcohol two years ago.

I’ve been tempted to try magnesium cream for my peripheral neuropathy of the feet but there are so many advertised and we all know that most of them will be useless. Has anyone found one that that actually works.

I’ve used LifeFlo Magnesium lotion for keeping the skin on my legs hydrated and it feels good and has a calming feel but I don’t have any pain just the numbness. They also have it in a spray on oil form but I don’t particularly like the oily feeling. The best part is that it is not very expensive.

I discovered a supplement called PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) after reading Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum’s book “From Fatigued To Fantastic.

I was still in a lot of pain taking Gabapentin and an opioid pain reliever. Once I added the PEA, my pain level improved greatly. I highly recommend anyone with PN check it out.

Deborah ... thank you for sharing. PEA is something that I will look into. I have found that pot is one of the few things that have helped....and I hate the stuff. It appears that PEA impacts many of the receptors that good old grass impacts. I"m excited. Thanks again

@arv10 Yes you can generally take Vit. B12 and alpha lipoic acid supplements at the same time. There are no known negative interactions between the two, and they may even complement each other, especially when it comes to supporting nerve health.
