reclast infusion

Posted by bmadewl @bmadewl, May 9 6:28am

Had my first reclast infusion in in February. It is now May and since then I have had lower back pain. I haven’t been able to work out at the gym as far as doing leg exercises because it seems to make it worse. I don’t know if this is a side effect or if it’s just something else has anybody had this issue?

I have used a variety of products, methods and experience with the gastly bone growth stimulator drugs(injections), first off those drugs(Tymlos etc.,) should be avoided at all costs, the side effects were horrendous and benefits were minimal, weight lifting is beneficial but the MOST beneficial for me has been Citracal-which has improved my T score FAR MORE than any prescription medication or other method.
Good Luck

Wow, that is interesting! I’d like to see more about the basis of this study.
I had such a strong reaction to Reclast and have been thinking I would never do it again.

You can listen to Dr. Bilezikian discuss it here https://youtu.be/UdkoNFf5EqQ?list=PLsDKtoUJsVMvw-R7yW2KiIQxUEwk_wKHL&t=2069

I’ve had two Zolendronic acid (Reclast) infusions in the past two years with absolutely no side effects. The majority of people have minor or no side effects but will not post on this thread. Just here to give my experience.

Thanks so much. How long will you be on Reclast? And when done, is it possible to end treatment?

Try Prolia, which is a shot you get every six months. I had that for about
ten years with no side effects. But the doc said she thought I needed to
take a break from it, a “drug holiday”! I hope I can go back to that,
although the copay is very high.
Good luck to you!

PROLIA is just as bad as RECLAST. I had to take a Reclast Infusion because of taking 1 Prolia. Prolia gave me too many side effects and Reclast made me pass out and when I came to I was so sick for few days.

The reason I had to take Reclast infusion was because of taking 1 Prolia shot. I had many side effects from Prolia. Wish I never took it. But my Dr scared me into it.

I think one never knows how our body will respond to something new, but doctors should be very clear about the possible side effects. About Reclast, mine just said, you might have flulike symptoms. Well, never have I had flu like that! However, I never had any reaction at all to Prolia.
Best of luck out there.

I’ll get one more treatment then have a scan to see how well my bones have improved. Probably take a drug holiday for a few years after next March.
Thanks

Update on my last Reclast infusion, last week. This was #3, annual, 5 mg. I did have flu like symptoms the first two times, about a day and a half after the infusion that lasted another day and a half. Annoying flu stuff, not too bad, but I didn’t feel like going anywhere. Nothing the rest of the year. If I were still working, I could have gone to work, but probably wouldn’t have gotten too much done.
I knew a slower infusion might help side effects, the nurse told me most people don’t have a reaction the 3rd time. As she was preparing the infusion I asked how long it would take, she said 30 min plus 5 for saline.
It was more like 15 min plus saline. I hadn’t been worried about the timing after she said 30, so I didn’t note the beginning time, but was surprised it went so fast. My husband was there, and agreed. Of course at that point, there’s not much I could do about it. I really wasn’t worried too much because I’d had so little problem with Reclast.
By the time I got out to the car my eyeballs were achy, and I was very mildly nauseous. I had eye conjunctivitis when taking alendronate, same class of drug, a biphosphonate, it was part of the reason I moved to Reclast.
The achy eyes and nausea lasted about 4 hours. I didn’t have the same flu symptoms but did feel off and fatigued that next day. All symptoms went away, I seem fine.

If/when another Reclast infusion is recommended, which I guess might in 3-4 years, I’ll have a serious discussion with the doctor about the infusion time. I would do Reclast again if needed, but never in 15 min.
