I probably made my Covid MUCH worse
Hello,
I currently have Covid for the first time. A friend who doesn't mask at all came to visit; I hadn't realized before she arrived that she takes no precautions at all (despite being 82). I should have been more careful. What a massive error on my part. Anyway...
She arrived on a Saturday. She started showing mild cold-like symptoms on Monday. Tuesday she said "I have a cold". Wednesday I began having similar symptoms - mild, cold-like (a bit of sneezing and sniffling). I didn't feel tired. We continued visiting and taking short, slow walks, etc. I did two RAT Covid tests, one on Wed, and one on Fri, to make sure, and both were negative.
She left on the following Saturday and while I still had some symptoms, on the whole I was feeling fine. So I went for a long, vigorous 6 mile walk after she left (a very typical type of daily exercise for me) and the next day, Sunday, I still felt okay in the morning, so I did some weightlifting. Well Sunday afternoon I crashed. Hard. I was shaking, felt nauseous, headache, etc. Went to bed, woke up with a horrific sore throat, chills, body aches, etc. I called the clinic and got signed up to do a PCR test that day at noon. Felt terrible all day.
Next day, I got the PCR results - Covid positive. I did a RAT test and that too, finally, was positive.
I have been horribly sick ever since. As of yesterday I can get out of bed for a couple of hours but then have to go back to bed for a long stretch. My appetite came back a little bit Th and Fri but I seem to have lost it again today although I've eaten a little. I've lost about 10 pounds this week.
So my question is, three parts:
1) Did I make my Covid much worse by exercising on those two days?
2) Have I made it much more likely that I may never recover by compounding the damage to my body goodness knows how much?
3) Other than total rest, does anyone have any recommendations? My nurse here has been useless and my clinic is currently without a doctor.
Thank you so much

Much caution.
Was over it twice and relapsed both times from over exertion. Ruined my life. Pickleball did it to me. Didn't know back then.
You were just trying to encourage her, and I was trying to do the same. One of the wonderful things about a group like this is that we can collaborate and support each other. I certainly did not feel that you owed me an apology. We are all just trying to do the best that we can. My prayers are with you as well.

1 ReactionIf I read this correctly you got Covid from a friend, you didn't know she had Covid and neither did she, and you went about your daily activities until you found out you were sick. If so, it may not have made any difference that you worked out. If on the other hand you knew you had Covid and you felt bad and then started recovering and started exercising vigorously and that may have triggered a long covid. Don't blame yourself I know lots of people who have gotten Covid and had your symptoms and then got better. Don't blame yourself. In fact most of us probably didn't know we had long covid until several weeks or months later. Give yourself a break from exercising and don't panic.

2 ReactionsMayo Clinic website says to avoid exercise if a person has symptoms below the neck. I.e., chest congestion, intense cough, fever, or gastrointestinal.
It's possible your exercise worsened your condition, but also possible that it was coincidental and you are experiencing a regular case of COVID-19.
1. If you are feeling that poorly, call the free nurse hotline of a major hospital in your state. Mayo clinic has a free nurse hotline for people in MN, IA, And WI.
2. Look on Mayo clinic website and WebMD for guidance on how to manage the next 24 hours and when to go to ER, if necessary. Undoubtedly, the first recommendations will be rest and hydration, and monitor any fever.
Feel better soon!
I did have covid once years ago but I swear I don’t remember it being this bad. Every cell of my body hurts; it’s hard to move around or even reach for things. Is it just me, that I forgot how bad it was? I felt a little cruddy two days ago, yesterday was worse and I think I feel even worse today. (So l guess it’s officially day 3 of symptoms but didn’t test positive until yesterday morning). I know the only cure and rest and time; but I really wish there was something that helped ease symptoms more. I took Advil this morning, which I don’t typically do because I shouldn’t but other than that I’ve been using day-quill which has helped only slightly. I do not remember feeling THIS bad!
Paxlovid prescription to ease symptoms and help with not getting long COVID.

2 ReactionsThank you!! I didn’t know that helped with symptoms; I appreciate your input.
Not sure what to do for you, but my question is how is your 82 year old friend? You pushed yourself too hard, so now you’re paying the price. Not sure if doing that made your Covid that much worse, but now just listen to your body and rest. I am a Long Covid Long Hauler, going on 3 years with still some fatigue if I push to hard (body tremors, sleepless nights), still also without taste or smell. I hope you will recover to 100%!

1 ReactionI kind of overdid it after I got Covid for the second time with exercise etc. And then the long covid set in. But the blame is not with you it is with Covid. For many of us the long covid kind of sneaks up gradually and then suddenly and you have a little control over that process. I am 2 1/2 years in and very recently accidentally discovered creatine which is improved my daily functioning much more than before and I am able to get out for walks do some light exercises but it's not a cure. It's a low risk thing to try unless you have kidney issues. Because it worked for me doesn't mean it'll work for you but I didn't expect to work for me at all. But again you didn't cause the long covid it sounds like your guest was with you for a week which is more than enough time for the virus too get in you. Rest is always a good idea but you don't want your body to get deconditioned either.
