Hyperthyroidism related thyroid eye disease and memory loss

Posted by megmaine @megmaine, 2 days ago

I was hoping to find a support group for my sister who was diognosed with hyperthyroidism 2 years ago and subsequently, Graves’ disease/TED…she is 78 has had a prism placed in glasses for double vision but has had little relief. Dr. Had mentioned Tepezza but then suggested Ed the side effects were not worth it. Literature on hyperthyroidism suggested that short term memory loss can be a result. Am wondering if this ever improves after hormone levels have been corrected with prescription Metamazole. Thank you for your thoughts.

@megmaine Welcome to the autoimmune support group! You are certainly a great sister to try to find resources for your sister. I think the best advice for your sister is to become a member and get involved in whatever discussions catch her fancy .
As for questions about memories, we will need to wait for someone who is taking Metamazole to give us their opinion.
Is there any reason why your sister might be shy about joining MCC?

No, actually, I believe she would welcome an opportunity to share/commiserate with others dealing with similar issues. I was just trying to determine if there was a group in existance that dealt with either hyperthyroidism and Thyroid eye disease. I will encourage her to join up. Thank you.

Sending good wishes to your sister. I have Graves which is pretty well controlled with Methimazole and moderate Thyroid Eye Disease which is not. I finished a course of a treatment for TED which didn't work for me unfortunately. I'm considering Tepezza as the next step but have to admit I have some concerns about it.
Kudos to you for looking out for your sister. TED can be rough.
