Echolight sonogram scan for bones

I had a REMS scan last month (it was offered at an Osteostrong location in Minnesota; I do not do Osteostrong and don't intend to - I lift free weights with a trainer, and walk daily). My experience may well not be representative at all, but I found REMS to be a joke and a waste of $275 (not covered by insurance). The results were so unbelievable (I no longer even had osteoporosis! my fracture risk was in the green zone! 😂) that I immediately scheduled a Dexascan and sure enough, per the Dexa, I am still T -4.3 (and note that I've had osteoporosis for 15 years since age 48 and have fractured many bones, including four wrist fractures, a leg, a foot, etc). Note that the REMS was also PAINFUL, which surprised me. The tech said "there will be some pressure" as she shoved the wand so hard under my ribs (and held it there) that tears sprung to my eyes and I wondered if I might actually fracture a rib. That was unexpected. The area hurt for a couple days afterward. I will never have another REMS.

I was going to come on here and ask about Osteostrong, but sounds like I got the answer I expected. If it sounds too good to be true, then it is. I have never heard of REMS (clearly I have much to learn) but I want to ask my doctor about it. I just wish there was something that helped besides meds.

IMHO your REMS was performed by an unqualified technician. It’s a medical procedure and Osteostrong is basically a GYM. I don’t know how they got the permission to do the procedure. I had the option to go to Osteostrong or a radiology office for my REMS. I opted to go to the Radiologist. There was no pain, no discomfort because it’s just an Ultrasound with some gel on your skin and they scan with a probe. Insurance covered the visit and the doctor wrote a report. Again IMHO, Osteostrong is a scam. There was evidence that people fractured doing their program.

The information I got from Osteostrong (and NO, I have no interest in taking part in their program or gym) is that they bring a qualified technician in twice a year. Now I wonder if that is true!

There are no doctor's offices offering REMS scans in WI that I have found. It's Osteostrong or I'd have to try to travel somewhere. So I'm disappointed to hear about MNpines experience. 🙁

I agree, I would ask for a refund and report them to the BBB
