Difficulty breathing in the heat and humidity

Posted by maryjanechilds @maryjanechilds, 23 hours ago

I live in Georgia which means we have very long hot and humid summers. My shortness of breath has gotten dramatically worse and is tied directly to the heat and humidity. I’m even wondering if supplemental oxygen is needed to get me through the summer. How are others coping with this?

Before I started oxygen I'd make sure I was doing as many others things as possible to take care of my lungs. Top of list is twice a day airway clearance. How's your routine going?

Thanks Scoop. I am doing twice a day airway clearance though I am unable to bring up any sputum. My doctor has a bronchoscopy on order for me and I am hoping he will be able to clear the impacted mucous which will improve my breathing.

I run dehumidifier 24hrs/day and stay in AC as much as possible, also use albuterol inhaler as needed. This is in addition to usual protocol of neb albuterol sol followed by 3% sod chloride, vest percussion, Symbicort inhaler(steroid) both morning & night. Also take Mucinex as needed. Heat, humidity & rain certainly make breathing with BE more difficult. Wishing you well!
