Prayers Please

Posted by melmc18 @melmc18, 23 hours ago

We leave this weekend for my evaluation in MN. I have been in good spirits about the opportunity to get on the Transplant List, now I am getting more and more anxious… please send prayers my way to help me keep calm and put it in the Lord’s hands.

Hi Melmc18,
I know this can be a scary time for you but God is there for you. It states in the Bible that he knows of all your needs so he will make certain that your transplant goes perfectly or you wouldn't have been able to get on a waiting list. Have you looked at the transplant support group on this forum? That might give you some comfort to see how others handled this procedure. In the meantime, just talk to God like he's your best friend and he is! Tell him all your concerns and ask for his help and blessing and you shall surely have it! I'm 79 and I remember when I was young and worried about a situation that really frightened me. I asked my Mom, "We have no money! What are we going to do?" Mom said, "We are just going to sit right here and pray!" And we did. The situation got resolved perfectly because God answered our prayers. The same can happen for you. God will answer your prayers and will be right there with you the entire time as you go through the transplant procedure and recovery! I'll say a prayer for you also.
I wish you the best.

Sending you angels! I’m in Phoenix right now, under going my evaluation - last day is tomorrow and I’ll have all the results in my final appt with the hematologist - and I’m supposed to get a good indication of where they’re leaning for the decision. My MELD score is 16 (liver transplant, and for a 61 yr old cirrhotic, I’m apparently in pretty good shape. Which means I may not be listed. But they’ve found some anomalies that need testing - which won’t be complete by tomorrow, so I may not be presented to the transplant committee for a few more weeks. I’ve fretted and worried after every test, manually monitored and analyzed the results that are coming in - making myself frantic with worry and driving my sister crazy. Then I remember - the Spirit always provides. There’s nothing we can do to speed it along - and you will be in excellent, caring, hands. Best wishes, and I’m sure everything will land where it should. I look forward to hearing about your week … I’ll start posting about it next week - sending positive energy.

Thank you so much Kelly,
I am 49 and was born w HCV which I found out when I gave blood at 17 so needless to say I have been dealing w liver disease all my life. Now I also have hepatopulmonary syndrome , and hyper ammonia. So I keep praying for the Drs that will be working with me. I would love to be a team and support each other since we are both in the same stage
Have a good night

Hi. No name or sickness above the name of Jesus. Nothing ever happens that God does not have control over.
I am a person of faith and also science. Mayo has the science covered best the world.

My story was truly miraculous. No symptoms of cancer, had an endoscopy of my esophagus for acid reflux,
accidentally caught just a tiny tip of my liver, where 3 cancerous tumors were. Made it to get on the Mayo transplant list. Was told it could be 6 months to 2 years to find a liver match with my blood type. It was a race as if the cancer spread beyond my liver they can't give transplants to those folks. Would not help and livers are scare. After I made the list they had a match for me 18 days later. That was a year and half ago and despite issues along the way I am doing well. When is God good ? All the time.

Prayers up !!

@melmc18,
It sounds like your bags are packed and you have a positive outlook as you proceed on your journey toward a liver transplant.
I received my transplant at Mayo MN 16 years ago, and I also had to travel from my home to Rochester. I assure you that you are going to be in the best of care! And, yes, it is normal to be anxious about this major event.
Each transplant is different, due to different circumstances, and each person is individual in their approach, reactions, spirituality, etc. Doctors can speak in generalities, but you will want to learn about your particular case. I would urge you to begin a list of questions; learn to ask questions; begin a journal or a collection of your health records and journey for later reference.
