Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

I’m experiencing the same thing. I have inhalers, nose sprays, and it just goes on. I am seeing a pulmonologist next week, a second opinion and maybe he can help.

Yes! My husband Mike has had this phlegm problem every day for 3+ years, along with fatigue and aches all over. It started the day after he got the
mRNA booster by Pfizer. What about Mayo Clinic? Do they have any hope for these thousands of people suffering all day, every day? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

For me, I had a virus with the worst cough I've had in my lifetime. At times couldn't breathe & heart just pounded after each coughing spell. Cough & bringing up mucous never went away, just got a 'little' milder over time. Still have spells where it increases. Drs try but no cure to stop at present. Its my understanding that the virus threw immune system in respiratory tract out of whack.

I have recently started the Mucinex again and flonase again. Hoping it helps the hoarseness. Thinking of going to another ent??? I already had cat scan, endoscopy, bravo test and swallow xray! I feel like a nuisance nothing has showed except mild reflux, LPR medicines have not rid the mucus! Just so discouraged and not 1 doctor I visited, primary, ENT, 2 gastrologists have an answer other than to live with it. Any suggestions of another dr to contact? . 🙁

That’s my experience exactly. This has been ongoing since January 2023 for me after having Covid so it’s definitely related to that. Have seen multiple doctors, tried all the meds, had all the tests and scans … no one is able to help at all. It’s a condition that I have to live with and it’s so discouraging. I wake up very day hoping it will be gone and it’s always there.

Hi @lmr29. Not familiar w your posts so hoping not duplicating suggestion of possible histamine/allergy reaction which is quite different with post covid. Even after finding and eliminating food/drink that causes increased phlegm I have occasional thick white episodes that seem to be related to unexpected increased activity and sucking on vitamin c gummy helps that🙃 Hope this helped in any way and quickest healing to you!🌈

I totally agree with you. Amazingly, my symptoms are finally resolving! I am off of all my allergy meds & only using albuterol for flare ups right now! I think my respiratory system has finally regulated itself back to normal. Here's hoping!! So, hang in there, your body can heal itself!!

I thought I was doing better with a Omeprazole and Claritin approach but proved wrong last couple days. Work related social events with presentations and group dinner created some underlying social stress which creates non stop sticky mucus that make it difficult to talk. Once home and able to decompress, phlegm still worse than baseline but gradually improving. Stress is a major trigger, even when I don't feel anxious, just background stress and needing to be on the ball, and this environment is just a nightmare for the amount of phlegm it triggers. There doesn't seem to be an answer however I'm going to try CBD during these events to see if it can reduce underlying stress and phlegm reaction. Other than the noise huffing and throat clearing we suffer in silence. This is such a horrible affliction 3.5 years and counting. I'm still fighting and hoping for some relief for myself and you all someday.

How long has it taken to reach this level of recovery? Thank you!
