Nerve Pain

5 weeks since lobe / lung surgery and I am still having a lot of nerve pain. If you experience or experienced nerve pain how long has it been going on or lasted? TIA

Morning mamalinda61-
I had my surgery 2 years ago and I will still get that nerve pain every so often. It depends on what I do during the day or if I wear a bra that hits that area. Of course it’s no where near the pain that I had after surgery. I honestly can’t remember when it started feeling better because it was a long slow process, but I do know they told me to be very careful in lifting anything over 5-10 pounds for at least 6 weeks after the surgery and also to be careful of how I moved on that side such as turning or twisting my torso. The pain should continue to lessen as time goes by as long as you don’t try to push yourself too hard. Have you tried the lidocaine patches on the area? Or lidocaine cream? Can you take ibuprofen? Did they prescribe you Gabapentin? That is what a lot of doctors give for that exact pain.
Hope this helps😍

I had surgery in February and the numbed my side, don’t know the technical term. I am now getting sharp pain on the side of surgery. I do not take gabapentin because I am afraid they are addictive. I am guessing that my nerves are”waking up” from the numbing. I am going to try the lidocaine patch to see if it works. Wearing a bra is also uncomfortable.

For me it turned out they had fractured 2 ribs during surgery. Very painful. It didn't show up on the X-ray, but luckily it showed up on a CT scan with contrast. Good luck!

Have you been checked out? After my first VAT surgery, I had a side pain, it was a little buildup of pleural fluid

Talk to your doctor. I took gabapentin and had no issues

My second VAT was significantly more painful than the first. The follow-up CT scan showed there was a new fractured rib. Risk of surgery, and I have osteoporosis.

Although my husband had no chest pain, X-ray showed that he did have a rib fracture during Lobectomy too,
