Travel to Mayo, Rochester: Looking for tips and recommendations

Posted by amarck65 @amarck65, May 29 1:43pm

Hello - I will be traveling from New Jersey to Mayo Rochester next month for my first visit and am looking for recommendations for shuttle service/ground transportation from Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport to Mayo Rochester. I see Groome shuttle may have service - is that the best option or are there others? I prefer not to rent a car for this trip.

I am also looking for a list of reasonably priced hotels near the campus with free shuttle to Mayo (or that are in walking distance if any?) that also have free cancelation and/or flexible policies if something comes up and changes are necessary? With the way things are flying out of Newark Airport right now, I am looking for lodging and transportation options that are as flexible as possible.

I will be going to the lab and radiology in the Charlton Building and then the next day to Urology in the Gonda Building if that helps with any recommendations.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Hello @amarck65. At Concierge Services, we give out a lot of information on lodging and shuttle services for patients. I have attached some information that might be helpful for your upcoming trip to Mayo Clinic.

Hi. I'm also looking to go from NJ. Did you get in based on applying through internal medicine (they turned me down) or through a specific clinic?

Hi there - wishing you all the best. We reached out to a specific doctor/clinic about my case. They reviewed and agreed to see me. It took a few months from acceptance until these first appointments. Perhaps if there is a specific doctor who specializes in your condition, approaching that person/department could help?

Residence Inn downtown it’s a very nice place to stay because they have a full kitchen with a full sized fridge and the prices are very reasonable and the staff is excellent. Also, they are connected via Subway to the clinic.

Hi @sheislistening Welcome to Connect and thank you for sharing your recommendation for lodging near Mayo in Rochester. The Residence Inn was my home away from home for 4 months in Rochester, along with repeated followup appointments. We really enjoyed our time there and you’re right, that full kitchen makes all the difference! It really felt like home there and the convenience of being attached to the subway was fantastic.

I hope your appointments at the Clinic were productive. Were you visiting Mayo to receive a diagnosis for an illness?

actually, we had to evacuate our building for a period of time because of stability issues.

The Kahler inn & Suites is right across the street from the Mayo Clinic. It is great to be so close. The clinic also has bus service if you want to somewhere else. Maybe out for dinner or shopping. The Kahler also has a decent restaurant. I have stayed there numerous times. You could maybe fine a fancier hotel tho.
