First of all, I am so sorry that you had to search for relief. Of course, that means you are suffering. I just want you to be very aware of the side effects of Gabapentin. It is now used for many, many aliments not ever meant to be treated by this very toxic Pharmaceutical!
Just like we are not all helped by the same thing, we are not all allergic to the same drugs.
BUT, PLEASE be cautious! I was OK on Gabapentin for the first week! Then, my throat completely closed! If I had not had someone there with me, I would have died right then and there. There would have NOT been any time to go to the Hospital. Be careful!

About two years ago I started having tingling and other sensations in my right foot, so I went to a podiatrist. He said I had radiculopathy, referred pain from my back to my feet. It affected the metatarsals which felt spongy or full. I have never had an official diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy to date. Yet my situation has escalated to mirror the symptoms I read about so much here at this group. I've had numerous xrays all over my lower extremities and I honestly can't remember all the findings. I know I have spotty areas of arthritis but you wouldn't know it to look at me. So when members of the group mention the type of neuropathy they have, I'm lost. I mean pain is pain, right? And everything I read about neuropathy points out that it just gets worse. And doctors can't figure it out. For once I'm at a lost for words because I really don't know what I'm talking about other than I have received a diagnosis of lumbar radiculopathy. So I guess the nerves in my damaged spine are the culprit. That's where it began. So what would you call that?

I was diagnosed with radiculopathy when I had the neuropathy in a single toe (the very tip). It started with a sharp jolting attack in my groin/leg while walking at the store, and I fell to the floor in pain.
The doctor suspected a nerve, and prescribed gabapentin.
I have not had a groin event since then, but the toe issue started some time after, and continues a year or two now assumed as the lumbar radiculopathy .
Sometimes the gabapentin + naproxen is not enough, so I apply campho phenique with a cotton q-tip as a temporary numbing.

Good for you lindybowers? I am in the non-diabetic neuropathy crowd and believe I entered that crowd by taking two days worth of tapering methylprednisolone. I had such a reaction that second night and discontinued it posthaste. Have not been the same since. One doctor wanted to give me gabapentin as a calmative and my pc tried to get me on zoloft. No to all of it. I also take ALA 600 and B-12. Magnesium also in the mix. I also do some stretching incorporating tai chi and elements of ballet. Moving is the best but doctors do not even emphasize that!

Ballet, nice!!! Yes I take magnesium and many other supplements. Stretching is such a healing modality. These doctors with their pills!!!!! I think that they don't trust their patients and want to control them with medications. What a risky job being a doctor, today. You get 7.5 or 15 or if lucky 30 minutes to have a doctor examine, and assess you; then order labwork/testing with radiation, then DRUGS?? Holistic doctors and those who practice functional medicine and see the WHOLE you are amazing. God bless those who have no health insurance. I believe that food is our medicine.

My PN is in my feet from chemotherapy for breast cancer also have severe lumbar and cervical radiculopathy but never put that together as causing the PN. Makes so much sense. My feet do the electric jolt. And I never know when it will start. I didn't like how gabapentin made me feel and it didn't seem to work. Red wine and diclofenac gel are the only things that help me.

I am trying different things, and trying to be objective about them.
Acupuncture: I think it is helping a bit.
Walking: As much as possible. I believe it helps blood flow to the legs.
Mama Bear Cream: I apply it once or twice a day. I don't know if it works at all, but it's not expensive.
Jacuzzi: I just started that. Again to stimulate blood flow to the legs.
I take Gabapentin, 400mg, 2x a day.
I went to a "free" session by a chiropractor. I think it is a scam and will cancel an appointment for a "full diagnosis."

I found that stretching seems to agitate the nerves and makes the pain and needles worse. Everyone is different. I have a bottle of ALA and it says to take 2 tablets on an empty stomach, and 2 total 1,500mg. I have not tried it yet. Maybe I should start with just one. Have you noticed any difference with it? If so, after how long? Thank you.
