Food Allergy and Bronchiectasis

Posted by blm1007blm1007 @blm1007blm1007, Jun 7 10:23am

I broke out with itchy small red individual welts Thursday in various areas. I have never had a food allergy reaction and at first thought it was an insect bite but do believe it may be a food allergy due to some new food products (boxed and jarred) I have had this week, Sesame seed crackers, walnuts, pecans, dill pickle.
Does anyone have a food allergy along with their BE???
Does anyone know if Bronchiectasis can cause us to be more susceptible to a food allergy?
Does anyone have experience with taking a antihistamine with having Bronchiectasis?
I read antihistamines can possibly dry up the mucus while on them. Has anyone experienced this, the drying up of mucus, if placed on a antihistamine for a food allergy therefore somewhat complicating, possibly, and making it harder to clear mucus out of our lungs?????
It's Saturday, I may go to urgent care, hate the itching. Using hydrocortisone cream in the meantime and hope the cream isn't a no, no with BE.

Since being diagnosed with our lung issue, i have also become gluten intolerant and lactose sensitive. None of my doctors have mentioned a correlation but i think it’s a suspicious coincidence.

My concern/fear as of a few minutes ago is aspergillus. I bought a new brand of trail mix with nuts and dried fruit. I just read that the mix of nuts and fruits can have mold and could be the mold aspergillus.
Going to call and see if Urgent Care can do the proper blood work to test for aspergillus.
Did you have food allergy testing to find out about the gluten intolerance.?
Obviously with our having BE we are much more susceptible to many things we weren't susceptible to before and since we are all different it may bring to the surface different problems for us.
I am also going to call this week to arrange for food allergy testing. Did the environmental testing over a year ago.
I will be emailing my pulmonologist also and will follow through with doctors to get the blood testing done.
Thanks for your response.

Could be hives or contact dermatitis/heat rash. Any new topical treatments, soap, lotion, detergents etc? Candida and thrush are skin related and can be a side effect from the big 3. If you do have aspergillus testing done that does take 5-7 days to get results. I don’t know how the blood testing corresponds with sputum testing (or a bronchoscopy) to confirm or rule out Aspergillus other than maybe it hasn’t spread to the blood? Hope you get relief and answers soon.

I have been gluten and lactose intolerant for years, long before I got BE. They can do allergy testing for foods, etc., but mine have never shown intolerance. It's really important to have a list of your intolerances and allergies for any doc or hospital visits.

What about drinking caffeine? My mom drink a soda and she went into a coughing fit.

Don't know about it being an allergy reaction for her however the sugar in the soda could be a problem. It is best to avoid sugary things in order to keep the immune system strong. A weakened immune system could have a hard time fighting infections. Generally speaking soda has a lot of sugar. Overall it is best to avoid sugar for better control of health problems.
