Plastic Concerns

Plastic Concerns. For years my "baby" sister has preached eliminate anything plastic. An article posted today saying there is a strong possibility of microplastics causing dementia with the microplastics being found in the body. As I said recently, I feel I am surrounded by plastic since being diagnosed with BE. I never used bottled water until now and then there is the plastic involved with our nebulizing materials, aerobika etc. etc. I am going to give thought to all this and try to change the plastic items I am still surrounded by that can be eliminated. Those big five gallon water bottles delivered to homes are great but at this time in life....I for sure can't pick them up and place them on the stand etc. 🙄 My understanding is that even the Life Straw pitcher is plastic. I have not ordered it as yet. Any thoughts and opinions.? Always something.😣

Also, I meant to say that we actually place the bottle on the floor in a kitchen corner. That way, we don’t need to lift the bottle to pour water into the large pot for boiling. We just tip the bottle over and pour. When we need to bring another bottle to the kitchen, we just push it because we have ceramic plank floors that don’t scratch. You could also use a small luggage dolly or such to transport it. No need to lift.

Thanks for your information and replies. Yes, the dolly and transport items do come in handy.
With summer I am going to start boiling the water outside on the grill cabinet at the electrical outlet, next to the patio door which leads to it from the kitchen. I then will transfer it to large glass jars. Got a bit hot here yesterday, meaning the kitchen also got a bit hot etc, after nearly a years worth of rain in just a few weeks.

I would assume that lots of things grow in that nice, cozy environment. There are a number of things you can do.
One would be to change the tube regularly - most tubing comes in pretty standard sizes, and a coil of 50-100' can be bought cheaply and cut to size. Then it either presses or clamps on.
Another would be to find out if you can get a dispenser with a UV light focused on the tubing to disinfect it.
Finally, you could change from a dispenser to a pump. The pump part could be sanitized weekly or monthly in bleach water, and the tubing changed out as I described above.

Those are really great suggestions. Since we just pour the water into a large pot and boil it and then store in large glass containers in the refrigerator to use as needed, we just would not use the mounted bottle anyway.

I wish that the distributor had e planned about ways for sanitizing the tubing when I expressed concern. We are now just so used to doing it the way we do, that it is hardly noticeable for us.

If tipping becomes an issue, the dispenser is not a problem for you since you boiled the water anyways.
When we travel, even though we regularly sanitize our water tank, and use a .2 micron filter on the line, we use bottled spring water for drinking, coffee and toothbrushing.
