I am at -1.1 in spine, and -3.7 in femoral neck of hip. I have major dental work coming up in the next six months. Doctor says Forteo is a good choice for now, because it does not risk osteonecrosis of the jaw with the invasive dental work. But, he says he would prefer I eventually take Evenity, since Forteo will not improve my hip. Does anyone know otherwise? Thank you!
@pathoag, I just had my third DEXA in a year and a half. I paid cash for the second one, $50, and the third one was actually covered by my Medicare advantage insurance. The insurance is supposed to pay more frequently than twice a year if you are on osteoporosis medication. I think that the Dr has to put medically necessary. I also put on the DEXA questionnaire that I was having the test to see if my medication was working.

2 ReactionsThank you so much! Its been almost 9 months since I finished Evenity injections. I felt I should be able to find out if it has helped, if my scores have improved. And I think I should have known before Prolia injections. I also think I should get the bone marker tests, CTX and P1nP. Think I would like to transition off of Prollia, but there is so much negativity about side effects for every drug. Thought about Reclast, but hearing horrible side effects from that.
I am going to message my Endocrinologist now ask her to order these tests, asap.
Thank you for your input.

1 Reactionthank you for the info. Where are you now? Do you regret taking the Forteo? Was that part of the cause for other serious medical issues your dealing with?
I don't regret taking the Forteo but I wish that the drug company had not misrepresented what the drug could and could not do. Quite frankly after some disappointing results I started to feel like a guinea pig. I said, no more. No more drugs for osteoporosis. Anyway, that was decades ago. Since then I have had three DVT's in the past 25 years and I will have to remain on a blood thinner for the rest of my life. One DVT is rare. Can you imagine having had three over the course of 25 years. Also I had a total hip replacement a little over a year ago and although the surgery went well I still have some pain. It's something I can live with at the moment. I have been told that the other hip would need replacing in 3 years or so. Can't even imagine that. Life goes on but I have always had a positive can do attitude which serves me well.

1 ReactionDo you think the Forteo caused the DVT’s? I’m interested because I just started Forteo.
I never gave it any thought that my 3 dvt's were caused by Forteo. I just Googled it and supposedly there is no risk of dvt from Forteo. My blood was analyzed by two different hematologists but they could not find any blood disorder. My GP told me that I had "sticky" blood. Just my luck.

1 ReactionHi
I was on reclast for 3 years. After radiation treatment I fractured against so I just started forteo 3 weeks ago and am struggling with fatigue and nausea. My endocrinologist didn't say anything about taking calcium or when to take my magnesium because I take magnesium at bedtime and I take my forteo shot at 8:00 at night so I'm wondering if that's got something to do with what's going on with side effects my doctor's away until mid August
