Sharing My Experience & a Resource
I've learned that it's all scary until I have a general idea of the direction that I'm headed. I was diagnosed with two forms of lymphoma in 2021, Marginal Zone and DLBCL. I had to take one at a time. DLBCL is quite aggressive. So, it had to be treated sooner rather than later with 6 rounds of R-CHOP (immunotherapy combined with chemo), from December 2021 to March 2022. I navigated that well and came out on the other side better than I could have imagined, all scans clear.
Marginal Zone is considered "chronic," and a few small spots showed on my PET two years after chemo ended (April 2024).
After I got over the shock of recurrence and had a few sessions with my oncology counselor, I'm in a better place. I've been on a 'Watch and Wait' protocol since April 2024. I call it 'Wait and Heal' because I prefer to think positively and believe that mindset plays a significant role in my healing journey. I don't have any symptoms and am on zero medications. However, I do spend a lot of time feeding myself nutritious food and taking care of my body and mind. Nature walks and hikes are safe havens.
Resource
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has social workers and literature that help with all aspects of care. I've phoned them for various reasons, one being how to discuss confusing information with my doctor. They're a phone call away--LLS.org.
I wish you much success in your journey. Please don't feel shy about asking us questions. We're all on this path that has some interesting twists and turns, some of them very good ones.
