I haven't been able to get any since since having covid in 2022. It's 6am here in Sydney Australia and I've been trying to get to sleep since 2am..this has been the norm for me. I have brain fog all day and sever inflammation. I can't be productive and I suspect I have ocd / adhd as well. I would do anything to have a decent uninterrupted nights sleep and to be able to think & not have pain. If anyone can help, please let me know. I don't know how to see people's replies to this.. my first post.. or other people's posts.. so if you can contact me, I'd appreciate it, otherwise I'll try to figure it out.
Stay positive and hopefully their will be a breakthrough soon. Cheers, Tony
Hi @tonyboulad. Sorry you are going thru this and you’ve landed in this great place. Think you’ll find many here that share the insomnia, adhd like post covid created anxiety body reactions, and also develop apnea and histamine reactions etc that further affect ability to sleep. Hopefully your healthcare system can perform a sleep study with and without cpap to show your symptoms and your reactions affecting oxygen levels that carryover to the next days symptoms🙃. They can glean a lot of info from this one test and hope it leads to quickest healing for you🌈
I caught covid and never took the vaccine. It did nothing to my sleep though I've had issues with poor sleep my entire life. I know that viruses cause sleep issues though. The only advice is to try to stay away from sleep aids if at all possible and get sunlight early in the day and try reading and/or meditation. Try not to sleep and the brain says "I want to sleep". Try to sleep and the brains says "not".

Thank you for the note and it is so true. Try to sleep and you can’t, sleep comes at you when you need it and it just happens. I like the way you put it. I just received a CPAP and have started therapy for sleep with it. It is taking some time to get used to wearing a mask and trusting the machine to ramp up pressure when needed. I’ve found it to be very good and anxiety around using the mask and equipment did gone. I just experienced four hours of sleep with the mask on and it is refreshing not to get woken up by gasping for air. I will stick with it and hopefully kick the sleep aid medications to the side. One variable change at a time and so far all steps have been positive albeit slow to achieve. I wish everyone out there peaceful sleep. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. 😊

Hi @jeffrey57. So glad things are working out with cpap. Mine is truly a lifesaver. Im doing my usual wide awake about 3am after covid. For me activity plays a role such as too long on my feet or calls I have to take which I can only say my body just revolts and the symptoms and histamine release increase to jar me awake🙃. I have learned to cope with this and just continue wearing cpap while watching music videos to happily quiet my brain and body while getting the oxygen my cells need until fall back to sleep. Hope this helps you in your adjustment and quickest healing to you🌈
I’ve had post viral fatigue symptoms for 22 years. I use multiple medications and am lucky if they work.l; but if I don’t take them I’m wide awake forever . If you can see a ME/CFS long Covid specialist they will help you address this very important issue. I can be more specific if someone is interested.

Please give any information you have. I had Mono in High School and have been dealing with, what I call "recurring mono" ever since, ( was diagnosed with chronic EBV) whenever I workout too hard or work too hard. The only way to get rid of it is bed rest. If I catch it early I get complete rest for up to a week and that way I can, half way, control it. During these periods it's nearly impossible to sleep. As soon as I have a good night of rest, I know I can get back to living.
I assume anything that fights viruses or this particular one would help and I've had some luck taking echinecia/goldenseal.
I had severe insomnia when I had Covid19 back in December 2020. I was sick for a month and had strange sleep patterns. I would "half-sleep" and then have the same dream every time I started to drift to sleep. I tried 9mg Melatonin but that didn't really help.
When I returned to work at week 4, I asked my primary for a sleep aid. I was prescribed an old anti-depressant that is now used for sleep. It is Doxepin and I take 3mg 30 minutes before bed; 6mg was too strong. The 3mg does cause me to get drowsy at bedtime and does not leave me feeling sleepy in the morning.
I wanted to get off the prescription med, Doxepin, and tried a 30mg CBD gummy with good sleep until it plateaued and didn't keep me sound sleep, - anymore (I only took a half gummy because it caused nausea).
I was told by a friend to try Gaia Herbal supplement for insomnia. I will be trying that soon to take a break from prescription Doxepin.
Hope this was helpful - Kim
I am two months post and while my appetite is slowly returning I still have days where I am very nauseous. I had a terrible 4 weeks in the beginning when my salivary glands were not working and it made it difficult to swallow due to decreased saliva flow. Now I have insomnia. Is hard to get better with lack of sleep. If anyone has tried something that works please share. Tylenol PM works a bit sometimes - have had no luck with supplements yet and don't want to take prescription meds to sleep. Have never experienced anxiety and insomnia like this. Praying for ongoing healing for all.
Everyone agrees that prescription drugs is not a first choice decision for insomnia. However, I found that sleeping only three hours for 3-4 consecutive nights led to depression. My social worker shared that lack of sleep is a primary factor in depression. Not only was it a few hours, it was not the deep, restorative sleep that I need. Sleep determines my quality of life in terms of energy-fatigue as well as daily out-look on life. I have the sleep med next to my bed. I do all the other cognitive behavioral approaches to sleep- if I am having a bad night, I take the drug. Not needed every night but as needed.
Good morning, thanks for the note. My pulmonary Sleep Doctor told me the same thing to use smaller dosage. I have been doing that and recently, 10 days ago, received my CPAP. While using the melatonin 1.5 mg extended release and the CPAP I’ve been sleeping a couple of hours with no other medication. Feels like a positive step forward to get to the point of stopping medications to sleep sometime in the near future. My priority right now is to get use to the CPAP masks and use it every day. I am glad people are sharing what they are doing. Covid is new enough and affects people so differently that we need to stay in the experimental mode to find out what works for us. I’m thankful for the doctors that are leading me down a productive path to recovery. Wishing everyone a path to peaceful sleep. 🙏

My cousin swears by his CPAP

I was told that smaller doses of Melatonin provides great support for sleep- smaller dose more successful than larger doses.
